Quoted for emphasis. XIV has a varied cast of characters, factions and the benefits of being set in a separate world. We should greatly benefit from story questlines with exp tied into them because that means everyone gets to learn about Eorzea. But I get what you're saying. SE is good at storytelling. Why did they not build this game on story-driven quest based leveling, and use the leves as a way to fill in the SP gaps and keep the gil flowing (or as an alternative for ppl who prefer grinding as a way to level)? It's backwards, and very boring after you've done it forever.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
