For some of us, one character per server is our option. So that's a reason, right?

I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
SMN/SCH bonus points
Last time I hit C it was displayed a window called Character. As soon as I hover over 'Community' menu at official website I can see 4 options, Character being one of them. IIRC, as soon as we log into the game, a Character Selection screen is displayed and you can see Characters created and saved through Character Creation feature.
Hmmm... What's written above "Allyra Arianos", right next to your avatar image on this very thread?
What is this magic!? Bewitching, isn't it?
English is not my mother language. I'm trying to do my best, so please don't be rude...

I have an alt purely for lulz/RP purposes but it's mighty inconvenient when something drops in coil that no one wants that I could have used on my alt. The best combination of gear comes from myth gear/allagan and with the increase in myth cap and as time goes by and you people obtain more coil/CT drops the appeal of leveling several alts suddenly becomes low.
The only good option for an alt is if you wanted to have all crafting/gathering on one character with maybe one battle class for farming and have your own separate battle character but if they ever increase inventory this also loses it's benefits quickly. For now you may be getting ahead of the game if you are cool with spending your entire week farming myth for all of your classes across several alts but as more sidegrades open it will yet again become less viable.
Just your friendly neighborhood elezen
There's a very good reason not to roll toons at all, let alone for each class. You might get The Dip!
But yes, if you want to work on gearing multiple main jobs then you can always make an extra character or two, if that's how you want to play the game. I'd suggest using separate service accounts for maximum flexibility, this is what I do for my alt. (Yes, you need to buy 2+ copies and pay 2+ subs, but it allows mailing between characters and you can log both in at once and direct trade if you want too).
God i hate the word toon... Id rather people called them avatars even, but this is a FF mmo, we call em Characters.
This is totally not a sub/hoagie/grinder argument.
Is this a Troll? Is the OP seriously questioning if there is good reason to use the job/class system that makes FF unique and versatile compared to other MMOs? Its put in place so you can experience the full content of every class in the game without the silly nonsense of rolling another character.
I mean seriously. That's like asking if there is any good reason to not go take a dump in the woods when you have a perfectly good toilet to use!
Yes a perfectly good system until you want to play a scholar and a summoner and don't like the fact you can't change your stats for each job.

I'm sure it isn't a troll post. There are legitimate pros and cons, as this useful discussion makes clear, and different players will come to different conclusions on which path they prefer. Is this a Troll? Every game, from what I've seen, call the avatars Character, but it's players, over the years, who've decided to call them toons. Mostly those who are too lazy to actually say Char/Character.Last time I hit C it was displayed a window called Character. I personally tend to flip back and forth depending on who I'm talking with. And a good portion of it took off with WoW more than EQ due to the car-toon-y looks of the characters.(Which, isn't a bad thing btw. The style worked for them for a very long time. And it's only with the upcoming Xpac that this is changing to a more realistic look)
@OP: It really comes down to personal preference.
It is much easier to gear up the other classes when it's all on one character, as you can then roll for offspec's. But, if you prefer to have a full background, history, and story for each character, then feel free to make multiple characters.
Do keep in mind the game is very young. And there has been mention of more jobs coming. Without knowing for certain how those will go, it may even be best to level two characters, going with each path available on each class later on. (Think SMN/SCH atm. It's almost worth having a separate character for each of these due to the stat allocation.)
