Is there any good reason to not roll a new toon for each class?

OP what are you going to do when they inevitably add some form of character-based progression system?

Right now rolling new characters for each job may seem appealing to you but later down the road the complete opposite may be true... at which point you'd be stuck with a bunch of alts with gear and jobs that are non-transferable back onto your main.

Go ahead and roll an alt to evade the lockouts; just don't come crying when a future addition to the game screws you over by favouring players with multiple jobs on one character.

And maybe one day they'll just give everyone a character will fully geared level 50 everything. I can make ridiculously exaggerated statements about features that haven't been discussed and are probably only being brainstormed about if anything. It's beyond stupid to say don't do X because Y might happen before the game dies in a couple years.

What on earth does a new progression system have to do with giving away free loot? I do believe that's the most absurd attempt at a rebuttal I've seen on here.

How is it a ridiculously exaggerated statement anyway? There's a good chance that they'll introduce some form of alternative advancement system at some point (FFXI had one, most MMOs get one) and it may well be character-based and not job-based (see Rift). If this were to happen the OP would be screwed as he'd then have to do double the work in progressing each alt.

My point was the current situation may change and if it does he will have wasted his time. Given that possibility does he want to take the risk or settle for what he can get on one character (which is more than enough for all game content)?
