Played hardcore for like a month capped out jobs/crafts/gathering. It really doesn't take all that long to get 50 on stuff.
Now taking it easy only playing for coil now.

The big difference is if you play with friends or not in my opinion. With friends you do eveything faster, even something like WP tome farming, you need to run it 10 times a week to cap tomes. Groups of full ilevel 90 gear can clear a run in around 10 minutes or less so they can easily do all 10 runs on a Monday. If you're the kind of player who will do 10 runs in the Duty Finder it will take a few days, there will be a 20-45+ minute wait for each run and the run itself can easly take 30 minutes. Playing alone or with friends makes a huge difference to the level of prgression you will get in this game. It's not as harsh as other games are like FF11 but it's still an MMO, you need other people to complete content and doing it with the same people all the time makes it faster and easier.
I started this game when it was released. I played no more than 10 hours a week. Got 2 classes to 50, got a full DL set and 2 relics at which time I was completely bored, burned out, and disenchanted with everything about this grind fest with no soul. If you so much as lightly casually play this game with half a brain, you will reach max level and get into raiding.
Got my Archer from level 7 (yesterday) to level 30 today and levelled PGL to 15 to unlock BRD. Doesn't actually take that long. Think your first level 50 is the longest to be honest.
And this isn't playing 24 hours a day. I'm a student in my honors year with a part time job, girlfriend, hobbies etc etc.
When I log on I just know what I want to do and do it.
Did my 3rd relic quest in a day. It really doesn't take much.
It works because I am a night owl and because even though Hubby works full time he splits the at home work with me. I come home from work and we have dinner which Hubby usually cooks since he gets home a couple hours before I do. Sometimes the kids or I cook. There is general hanging out and whatnot and then usually after hubby falls asleep I go play for 3 hours or so. Twice a week I get on a little earlier for Coil. If hubby or kids are still awake generally they take turns sitting and chatting with me or showing me their latest youtube creation while I wait for my party to gather. Weekends we do the major chores, do the shopping and sometimes go out to eat. Once a week is date night so I don't play games we do dinner and/or a movie and just spend time with the hubby. This blows my mind. Are you playing at work? Do you stay home while your husband works and play the game while kids are at school? Do you make dinner for the kids.. or does husband? Are the kids in any extra-curricular activities? Sports? Music lessons? Do you not have PTA meetings? Who watches them after school? How does this schedule work?
You must have some secret magic formula for juggling!
The kids are 15-20 so they pretty much have their own interests now. They never were really interested in very many school based extracurricular activities. Daughter plays piano, flute and piccolo, eldest son is in Choir and youngest plays guitar. They don't need a ton of monitoring and only occasional carting around to various things. Checking on homework and catching up on the days events doesn't take a ton of time. They are all chatty and like to share.
Additionally I record a podcast once a week and am starting on another every-other week video podcast.
Lately I've taken a break from FFXIV and have been doing a Minecraft challenge together with my kids, my sister, her son and a couple of friends. We hang out all chat on Skype and build our city together. Once a month my family gets together at my sisters house and we make a big lunch and play D&D or board games so I don't usually get to play ffxiv that weekend.

I just finished my 9th relic. All classes 50
It's mostly focus and understanding.
I play the jobs that work best, and used FATEs to the full extent,
I would say 3-4hrs a day average
TBH this game is super casual friendly.
I'm 35+ married 2 children full time job and playing 3 hrs a day (even counting days i coudn't play when i was at the movies or those mini-maint, square likes to do)
I have 2 50 jobs with relic+1 and full DL gear (even accesories) and blacksmith at 50. and some gathering
And i haven't played in almost 3 weeks (didn't resub)
I honestly can't seem to imagine how the OP is not lv 50 by know
Serious question what content that i didn't do you have done that takes to much time to do?
Maybe your mind is blown because I guess you've only been playing this game half as long as most everyone else? This game is 4 months old now, not 2. Maybe you started late?
Everyone plays at their own pace, OP. Some people like to B line for targets. For example, I'm currently working on my second relic and second set of DL. I've not touched Coil because I don't play at a good time for it. Some people have less time. Someone with a full on family isn't going to stay up until 3AM after work like I do. I play after work every night then also play during the weekends. I still get house work done, read my study material (not in school, but trying to expand my abilities) when crafting/gathering.
While you are baffled at the speed some players have completed content, you should redirect that attention to yourself and focus there, in case it makes you feel insecure/left behind. If you have friends or regulars you play with, just be relax and content with them. That can go pretty far in your playing. Just because others like to rush to specific content does not mean you must do so as well.
