Because the JP have been calling myth gear AF +1 this whole time.
(Or sometimes call it shinwa=mytho.)

I have been referring to the ilvl 90 job gear as Relic armor because it shares the same names as the Relic armor from FFXI just like the artifact armor shares the same name as the artifact armor in FFXI. I don't call things +1 unless there is a +1 in the name.
I'd be willing to go with this. Seeing at the Relic weapon is also a +1 item.
I can't wait till the current myth set gets a +1 for itself... I guess it'll be AF+1+1 to these people then.
Then it is AF+2, ya know cause 1+1=2
Also more then likely the next "Myth set" is going to follow the same trend and just be a re-color of the AF2 shown in the pictures. Least that is what we can assume. So AF2+1
Actually what am I saying? The next turns of Coil will have the Allagan2 pieces and then the new tome currency will be used to purchase AF2 most likely since I doubt there will be a quest chain to get them.

Too many posts out there that float my way to quote them all...
But i call them AF and AF2 out of habit from FFXI...
A +1 version, in my book, is the same item just upgraded (Like you upgrade your relic weapon. You loose the normal one and get the +1)
AF2 (and every other new number) has nothing to do with the lower tier in terms of how you obtain them. (And who says we won't be able to upgrade AF2 to AF2+1 or the next tier AF3 to AF3+1... no one knows...)
If it's an entirely new design and not just a color swap with additional details, i will probably call it relic gear and start the count all over.
To me...
Stuff from your Grand Company : GC Armor
Stuff handed out during class quests : Artifact Armor
Stuff from Wanderer's Palace : Palace Armor
Stuff from Amdapor Keep : Amdapor Armor
Stuff dropped from Pirmal fights : Primal Weapons
Stuff purchased with Philosophy Tomes : Darklight Armor
Stuff crafted by DoH : Crafted Armor
**Stuff dropped from Crystal Tower : Crystal-Armor
Stuff purchased with Mythology Tomes : Myth Armor
Stuff dropped from Coil of Bahamut : Allagan Armor
I would be more inclined to call the stuff JSE1 and JSE2 (Job Specific Equipment) than artifact, because they can't be equipped by their native class.
I call it welfare armor
I don't think you can extrapolate a pattern from one instance. We don't even know how AF2 is going to be introduced let alone if there will be a recolored version of it. It might be dropped from coil 6-10 for all we know. Maybe it will do a similar move to FFXI and have bosses drop an item that can be turned into a specific piece of AF2 after you've obtained 5 of them (for example). Then it is AF+2, ya know cause 1+1=2

This would be freakin awesome.I don't think you can extrapolate a pattern from one instance. We don't even know how AF2 is going to be introduced let alone if there will be a recolored version of it. Too many posts to reply to all but is a summary:
- First of all; the the developers are calling the new sketches AF2, so THAT is the AF2, we cannot call mythology gear AF2. That is just wrong and will confuse people.
- There is space in the inn where you can store these items under artifact (hence the name AF).
- Mythology gear is between AF and AF2, so it is only natural to call it AF+1. Since AF2 is taken, and intended for something else. It is natural to call mythology gear AF+1 because it is an upgraded version of the same gear (visuals). There is no need for an actual +1 to be in place.
- Allagan and CT gear is not artifact armor, so they will not interfere with the AF labeling.
- This thread is about finding out what the official name for these things are. If majority of the population says AF2, it doesnt make it right, in fact it is wrong. People get confused because of things like this.
- I would love for an official from SE to comment on this.
