FATE's are entirely optional. You do not have to do them. They are the fastest way of gaining exp currently, but they are also mindless and boring. If efficiency is all you care about, then FATE grind. If however, you'd like to actually have fun playing the game, go do dungeons with friends, or leve quests, or grind out some mobs that drop stuff worth gil while leveling your chocobo, or whatever else you find entertaining. There is no race to 50.

You are not forced to FATE grind. I've leveled two classes now on strictly dungeons, because I enjoy them. SE has given you an option for faster leveling, without it we'd hear non-stop complaining of "Why do I have to do dungeons to get exp /sadface, I want to exp solo /tears". The complaining won't stop with the boosted dungeon exp either, because MMO players are fickle. You don't even know what you want.

FFXI had slow leveling and people complained. FFXIV has fast leveling and people complain. Dungeon exp is still "fast enough", but ya'll like to whine.

Take your time and enjoy the game.

I thought someone would say something like this. Its a point to make them equal so we can feel like that have given us a choice and not guided us down path A or B. etc

Its also a means to spread people out. don't tell me you haven't tried to do fates and can hardly get Gold because there is just simply too many people doing the and it dies too fast or before you even get there.

There are other areas to FATE grind in that are not packed with the sheep. Explore. Gold is pretty easy to get when there's three of you doing the FATE.

Who cares if 90% of the player-base does something one way? Do your own thing.

People always get so defensive and angry in these posts like im trying to ruin their game experience when in fact im trying to start a constructive conversation to help improve gaming experiences for all. We can only hope SE does read posts and notes things.

Yes it is 1 thing that is being added however unconfirmed whether or not it will be a leveling method.

You're making it seem like dungeons are not a leveling method. Dungeons are a leveling method, whether they receive an experience boost or not, people level up using these. Whether you decide to use them or not, that's your decision and I'm not going to bash you for deciding to use dungeons or not. You cannot state that dungeons are not a method for leveling.

What other options do you know of being added?

I would recommend you read the 2.1 notes that were released recently, I don't have a link to it handy, however there are more methods for leveling being added, including additional side quests and beatmen tribes. I do not know more off the top of my head, however there are a few being added.

Finally,
If you dislike this game because of it's inability to provide a broad number of means to level your character, then you may want to go ahead and find a new game to play until this game has some time to grow. Assuming you haven't read the 2.1 patch notes, there is a large amount of content being added. It is not all content that you can use to level your character, however it is content that will draw people to the game nonetheless and provide additional content for us to clear and have fun playing.

If your goal is simply to reach lvl 50 as fast as possible then choices is not really something worth requesting. It's not practically possible to balance out XP gains since the community will always sway the effects depending on what they label as "the best!". They give a minor boost to dungeon XP and this can lead to a massive drop off on fate farming, which will lead to fates taking longer to complete and the XP gain dropping like a rock. Speed runs will also kick in which will simply boost dungeon XP gains to unexpected levels. You change it to mob chaining and suddenly it's all about who can get the most BLM's into 1 party, also complaints that not enough spawn or it's too repetitive. Leve quests could (in theory) have balance but those are still limited in the end anyways.

The players have too large of an impact on how XP is gained so it's impossible to expect that all methods of farming will be equal.


Now, if you want choices...Then I think this game does a fairly decent job! Plus the addition of PvP and housing as alternative means of escape, I can't really see why anyone would willingly choose to not change things up a bit from time to time.

The 2.1 patch is very nice and all but it fails to add enough core elements to the game to be worthy of coming back to play.

This patch is huge. Also, if you've quit, how are you posting here?

if 3 new dungeon runs, a raid, 4 new bosses, new quests, PvP and other content don't add enough "core elements" (whatever those are) to the game for you, then nothing will.

You know, maybe you should try it before shooting it down in a ball of flames?

They will be improving other EXP options in this patch. But what business is it of yours the way other people level? If you don't want to level a particular way, then don't. Maybe it wont be as efficient, but it will be a lot more fun for you. But both dungeon EXP and levequest EXP will be increased, and im sure the daily quests will give EXP too. All this talk about 'not adding enough' and your real complaint seems to be difficulty of EXP? Come on....

TL;DR you are shooting down this patch and the game even though it is addressing the very things you're complaining about.

The problem with the game in its current state is that when it comes down to it really the only thing your going to be doing and is worth your while to level up in the game is to grind fates. Lets face it Fates start off ok and fun but the fun dies out very fast as you realize they are fairly uninteresting and have a very copy/paste feeling about them. They are nothing more then a dull version of a Rift from that game. If you've played Rift the only thing here you can do is agree. The GW2 event system even fared a bit better but that one is debatable at least.

Nothing requires you to do fates, there are many ways to level your classes, FATE's are just one option. Just because it's the fastest, does not mean you have to do it.

As other people have said, there is a ton of new content being added to the game. Bearing in mind this game has only been out for a few months, which currently on its release client has achieved more interesting and well thought out content on launch than the majority of the MMOs I've played in the past 5-6 years.

And all of this was done in two years, be patient or simply continue playing other games.

My point is that those other games held your attention longer because they did not force you down a leveling path like we all hate. A very good example is Tera for that.

They need to give us a variety of ways to level up our characters to keep us interested so that our "Jobs" don't actually feel like Jobs.

You DO have a variety, more-so than most games which would simply consist of quests, and field monsters and the occasional dungeon.

Don't like or got bored of Fates? Try finding a large group of monsters and see how high you can get your Exp chain...why did they put those chains in there anyway if you can't really utilize them by leveling up this way!!!!? Possibly just nostalgia from past games. Don't like having to level that way? Then don't. since when did having a choice hurt you. Maybe you like to grind dungeons for exp. You get a chance at those awesome dungeon gears that way also!!! How about some daily quests or even daily hunting logs. I always liked the idea of those logs but they just well.... Ran out

Grinding Mobs on the field was the whole point of having your hunting log (which were designed as a boost to your EXP not your main source).
Mob EXP chains can and will level you up, it's just not as fast as the other methods, you're arguing the point that not everything is as fast as the other, this is completely intentional, you have more than one option available to you when it comes to leveling.

I don't see the harm in having these other leveling methods match the leveling speed of Fates. I get that the game devs wanted us to experience Fates and not go off and get max level ignoring them completely BUT if you strip the community of free will and choice your game will ultimately fail. Thats the direction Successful MMO's need to head in these days.

So i wrote this because here i am with a itchy trigger finger waiting to come back to a game with AMAZING potential for greatness.

(/shrug) I'll re-iterate, FATEs aren't the only way they're simply the fastest way, if you choose to bore yourself by spamming FATE's over and over again then of course you're going to get bored. Try something else for a change, there are many other options available to you other than zerging one fate to the next for hours on end.

Dungeon XP is going to be "almost triple what it currently is" and "better than FATEs" and they are also boosting guildleve XP to not be a complete joke.

- Dungeons receiving a 150% boost in XP.
- Guildleves and Guildhests will benefit from the Armory Bonus. (extra 50% xp, might put battle leves in line with FATEs in terms of speed and XP rewards)

Couple this with the fact that they're adding daily rewards for running dungeons and Guildhests and you're going to see a lot more people doing these.

Don't know about you but I'll never FATE grind again after this patch. I'll only do them if I'm out and about and it's not out of the way to do it.
