On Odin, the community is awesome up until Coerthas. I hate comparing the game to WoW but it's on par with WoW's Barrens chat. I don't know if it's people just bored from fate grinding but when I was doing 45-50 (or at whatever levels you run out of story quests!) there on my first 50, the shout chat was pure entertainment. Arguments, insults, chats that made no sense. It was absolute mayhem. Probably calmed down now... But apart from a few people, pretty mature community. A lot of silent DF runs.
I am a Hardcore gamer, what you're talking about here is an Elitist. In my opinion, it's the hardcore crowd that are the worst. My worst experience was with a tank who refused to do a WP run with me simply because I was a DRG AND I was under-geared. He said "You might be able to run it in 20 minutes, more likely 30" and left the party instantly. Despite the fact that I was running WP in 20 minutes with full AF/lvl50 gear and am now clocking a consistent 15 minute run with a static which has dropped down to 10 minutes since we added a BLM.
They rely too much on gear and class to measure players. I feel like casuals are more laid back, willing to give people a chance, and willing to admit when they've made a mistake. I've done Chimera, Hydra, Ifrit, and Garuda in one shot with casual groups; and the Chimera battle I did with 3 healers LOL.And we of the Hardcore would appreciate if that fact was kept straight. :P
Hardcore gamer's will play the game to win the game. To be the best THEY can be. Elitist's expect everyone ELSE to be the best too. And that's the major difference between the two.
If I run a DF, I look for the message saying "One or more players are new...", and then I ask 'Who's new here?'. Cause I'd rather take a moment to explain a fight, than rush in and wipe.
After playing a lot of different MMOs, Final Fantasy isn't really all that different when it comes to the social side. You'll have your spammers and your trolls, but you'll also have those really awesome players and groups. Some are fortunate to find the gems earlier than others. FF does seem to have the uneven balance towards the good players, but I wonder if this is due to the subscription, or the fact that many are console gamers looking to fit in with the 'PC gamers'?
yeah there really needs to be a distinction between HC and Elitist. I consider myself hardcore in spurts as I work most of the year but have weeks/months where I don't work and play time goes up drastically. Elitists can play 5 minutes a day but be utter pr•cks about it... doesn't make them hardcore or casual, just an elitist jerk.I am a Hardcore gamer, what you're talking about here is an Elitist. And we of the Hardcore would appreciate if that fact was kept straight. :P

Plenty of softcore elitist jerks in this game. The ones that buy Titan runs and then talk like they are better than everyone else.
