Thanks for the answers. Its all helpful and explains a lot. An east coast Canada server would have ping times from 240ms to 340ms from where I am, based on my observations with other games.

Try getting a ping reduction service like battleping or ping zapper before dropping the money to move. The latter has a free trial so you can see if it makes a difference.
