    actually go to the 4 sisters aether in thalan and go south you will find a mini beastmen area. I personally like the 5 hangs (or four hangs i forget the name) it is a area in The black shroud whwere there arte 4-5 bridges that connect to various hill tops i'll call them. And the big lake also

    most zones in ffxi were like that need I remind you of the 2 starting areas for each city were infact 1 zone broken into 2 mini zones.

    I just wish a dev would comment on this kind of topic. I want to see what the company thinks about their current regions.

    They've hinted at burning Gridania down. I really hope it happens. I'd love for it to be more like Zi'tah and less like Yoahtor.

    I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

    How can you enjoy the story quests? I don't get it, it just has you running around for no good reason. One has you go to Gridania so they can tell you to go back to Dry Bone. One has you run to Gridania so it can have you run to Mor Dhona. If you like this, I hope you're in the minority because if this is what the future of video games is all about then it stinks.

    The future of MMOs are Massively Soloing Experience with zero hard work. Storyline quests are just that, storyline. They're not "go here and fight 820 mobs. Now go here and fight 9230 mobs. Now go here and slay 78 giant buffalos!" Some storyline will obviously have you fight, but that's not always the purpose of a story.

    It's clear that the RPG genre is no more.

    It's not that hard to make the areas look different, as such;

    Add random crap such as;
    abandoned buildings
    beastmen
    bones (why are there NOT carcasses laying around Thanalan especially?)
    differentiation in plant types (color/shape/species)
    wrecked caravans or carts
    obvious man (or beast) excavated steps/cave leading to overlook of area on hill
    ancient ruin-ish buildings (def feasible for Shroud)

    Terrain colors and shapes;
    when getting closer to zones, apply necessary color to fit upcoming atmosphere
    random terrain forms (crater, giant crack in earth, carved by beastmen cliffs, etc.)
    subtle color changes when near such things as water (greenish)
    Ground color darkens or changes when it rains

    I mean, yes this would take some time but in no way would these make it 'to large' as Tanaka previously stated why they were so copy/pasta.

    DIVERSITY!!!

    Wow ok yea lets put the blame elsewhere like we always do with FFXIV. Just because someone else does it *** doesn't mean FFXIV is excused. The storyline quests are boring, that was my argument, and I bet 3/4 of everyone here will agree with me. They should change them and make them better, perhaps have you run through a dungeon fighting a threat and then a mini boss at the end of the line, or maybe a temple and then hit you with a cutscene. FFXI's storyline was a lot more exciting and a lot less running around. [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]

    EDIT: and if the purpose of that part of said story is NOT to fight, then don't make me run to Mor Dhona for crap all or to the middle of Thanalan for a couple sentences. After the one near drybone where you have to settle down the beastmen, my NPC mate says he'll meet me in Gridania and teleports off...why did he not take me with him for example? all the storyline quests are boring time sinks. If we're looking at this from an FF standpoint, not once have I been this bored playing a Final Fantasy game.

    Now you're complaining because the game does make you go to different zones?

    I do agree with your original topic though, we do need more variety in the zones. We get some when we go in the underground areas so the engine is capable of having more variety than we usually see above ground.

    I don't mind it so much in the Black Shroud, I like nice big forest areas and there are areas such as the small and larger streams to break it up a bit but Thanalan is just desolate rock with a few rocks scattered about. Not the most interesting of areas.
