This is EXACTLY what I was afraid of. We surely arent the only people who feel this way. I agree, and hope that SE will do something about this.I never know what materia to buy because I have no way of knowing what materia (grade level and variety) I can actually apply to something I wish to meld. This has made me shy away from the melding system entirely. This information really does need to be displayed somewhere prior to the actual acquisition of the materia. I like the previously mentioned idea of gear surveyor NPC.
I was hoping that I just didnt see the information...but this is really troublesome. This gaming community shouldn't have to go through the work of cracking the code to gain a basic understanding of this pretty basic aspect of the game (put materia into materia slot or force meld materia onto an item). We shouldn't have to crunch a bunch of numbers or play with math formulas to figure out what materia to purchase for our gear.It doesn't. People had to figure it out on their own. Raldo put up a post of his test here. The formula he derived from it is a couple posts down from that one and is [Base] / (1 + .25 * [# of materia (+1 if HQ)])
I really hope SE addresses this.
I'm sure SE knows, however why they've chosen to keep the caps/thresholds secret boggles my mind. Part of me thinks they rolled out the materia aspect of the game halfheartedly.Does someone have a good point on why SE keeps these caps/thresholds secret? Not only for materia, I'm talking all of them (parry/acc etc).
Shouldn't SE provide us with information on: acc caps per content, parry thresholds, secondary stat melding caps and whatnot?
I'm starting to think they don't even know, it's really bugging me.
I'm sure someone out there can make an argument supporting why SE should keep these caps/thresholds secret up until the moment you attempt to meld materia, but I doubt it'd be a good one.
I'm more interested in what SE has to say regarding all of this and see if they'd reconsider keeping item stat caps/thresholds secret (up until the moment the meld is attempted).
I see that as part of the game. Figuring out what caps there are is fun for me. Sure it isn't fun for everybody but finding it via google shouldn't be a porblem in times where guides are all around.
And, SE won't please everybody.
I like Random-Number-Generator
'cause I'm able to accept that
a dice normally has six sides
a pyramid has 5 sides
a toast has 2 sides
AND I CAN'T PREDICT WHICH SIDES IT FALLS TO.
It is part of a game indeed. It's not when things remain unclear. This has nothing to do with pleasing everybody, it has to do with people who would like to know all about the game.

Greetings,
We realize that displaying the stat caps for materia on all equipment would be convenient; however, this would significantly increase the amount of information displayed for each item, and if you are a player that doesn’t have any interest in melding materia this information will be superfluous and may cause confusion. Due to this we do not have any plans of adding this information.
Easily way you can do is to put up those information in Erozea Libra instead.
