Infinite Macro String or Option to Link Macros

I don't understand why there is a limit to how many commands we can put in a macro. It would be much more convenient for us to create a single macro instead of having to break it up across multiple buttons. At the very least let us link macros so the next one triggers once the first has completed, as having to press multiple buttons kind of defeats the object of having a macro in the first place.

I'm sure if this was implemented it would make a lot of people very happy.

Because then people would hit the macro and walk away ala bot - the macro limits keeps us nearby or there but rests our chubby fingers.

Good point! then maybe not infinite, just 30 or so lines per macro with no linking would be a big improvement.

Not only the fact that people could bot, but it can also create dangerous loops.

    Automation has it's limits.
I can imagine someone making a grinding macro, you press it once, does like 5-6 things, resets and goes back to doing it again(or you can press the button again)..but what in the world are you going to use a bloody 30 line macro for.
You can, if you are really interested, purchase a keyboard that has the ability to emulate keystrokes and make an infinite one like that if you really wish.

It still baffles me as to why you would put that many abilities in a macro.

A 15 line macro is only 8 skills, if you have /wait worked in. A 30 line macro can allow you to do the last normal tier of crafting, and probably also some 1-stars, in a single press. Might even allow you to craft a 2-star with a single press, but that's kind of irresponsible given the kind of delay you can encounter.

    Baffle removed.

in FFXI there was a windower 3rd party program that allowed us to play in windowed mode, it also allowed us to link our macros to a Text file on our computers. The text file was unlimited, and it made macros awesome because i could switch into the best gear for the spell i was casting, like all thunder gear for thunder spells,/ All resting gear for needing to rest etc. There wasn't Gear panels to swap between the sets so we had to do it all individually. In FFXIV as a crafter though, i like to make my macros that can take into consideration any random crafting encounter, good/excellent. This takes up a lot of lines. It's like soft core Code. If only I had If Then Statements. 30 lines would be great, honestly at this point even 30 i'd be in 2 macros for some of the harder crafts. It was always 2 macros for me to do the 70 3 stars, i suspect it'll that way or more for 80s

EDIT: Didnt catch the person above necro bumped the thread, so the following line was an update in 2015.

    /ac "Action" <t> <wait.3>
    all one line.

on a side note, macroes no longer work, due to RNG procs on ranged DPS, melee need positionals, and casters need to interrupt casts to dodge.
there's nothing wrong with macroes being made better, since you cant automate anything with a real challenge.
anything w/o a challenge can be automated with the current macro system anyways. (and other methods, such as someone mentioning keyboards having such features)

One that can still be relevant as well. Not bad.
