I don't get what FCs/LSs have to do with coil anyway.

They provide no benefit to it. They don't enhance communication. Just find a group of friends that want to do coil together and do coil together. What's so hard about that.

On this note, I see no reason why FCs were added. Their functionality could just have been given to linkshells...
