I think I would be fine with the Coil lockout if they let us pick which turn to enter, as long as everyone has "unlocked" said turn legitimately, instead of having to go in order. I would easily give up the mid-turn progress save for that option. This way, you still have new people having to progress in order but it becomes a lot more friendly to odd-numbered FCs/LS's.
My FC is made of several longtime online and RL friends and (after recent departures) none of us are crazy gear hounds and want to see the entire group get geared up and make progress. We have some more people getting coil-ready and it will allow us to finally run it more often. Most everyone in the FC doesn't mind sitting out if necessary or missing due to unavoidable stuff, but in our case what will likely end up happening with the current system is that specific people will never see certain turns (and therefore never see specific gear they might need) depending on if they are available earlier or later in the week which shouldn't be the case.
Being able to pick which turns we do and when, while still locking us out of that turn alone, would make the whole system a lot more forgiving while still slowing down player progression as intended.
