And that's were the problem lies.

No one should have to pay for a VPN service to improve their game play.

This is something SE should sort out themselves.

Why would a patch take 1-2 days? I've never seen a patch take that long in all my MMO playing years.

Apparently "All your MMO playing years" has been little or you've been playing Runescape too much.

Read it again, it's not just for the patch.

Also, I only had to type "24 hour Maintenance" into google and within seconds it became quickly clear that WoW has had quite a few take that long. Funny that eh....

EDIT: Looks like Maple Story got hit with 8 days worth of downtime once, ouch.

Let's not forget, both ff11 and 1.0 were down for nearly two weeks due to the earthquake/tsunami back in 2011.

Also, I'll look forward to seeing just how much better the reaction times are once I try the new content (which I'm looking forward to next week).

Whilst I understand maintenance with major patches are usually quite a bit longer than the usual ones I dont quite understand why its tentatively going to take 24hrs.

In case they screw up or run into unforeseen problems, also known as C.Y.A . Always over estimate, makes people happy when it's done early.

Yes a lot of people are having to use tools like Pingzapper to reduce their ping -especially time warner customers in california. There are some routes to SEs servers that are ruined by ISP - not by SE. Although maybe SE shouldn't put their servers in Canada where nobody of significance lives and instead put them in Dallas or Chicago which have much better traffic routes for data.
