Either 3/10 for troll quality, or 10/10 for bafflement quality.

Assuming you're being genuine... lolwut? This thread is clearly authored and heavily contributed to by people who know a great deal about paladin and what limited room there is for finesse play with the class. That said....

You do realize that shield oath comes with a 20% reduction to the damage you receive.. so on.. .like nearly every fight it would be an awful idea to be in sword oath. Titan, Coil, even ifrit and garu depending on your gear (a full af pld shouldn't use sword while tanking garu for example). If I turned on sword oath while tanking twin I'd be dead within moments.

You can get away with Sword Oath during Titan Heart phase. Otherwise yeah, if you're not doing WP/AK, I would stay in Shield Oath.

As for the topic at hand, I don't find PLD boring, but it can get tedious. Thing is, this game has the armory system, so I can switch to Monk or go play WHM or SCH if I need a change of pace.

PLD is probably the most boring class I've ever played in a game to date. Literally the only time I've enjoyed it is when I can just sit there and play with cool downs in an intense fight like Caduceus or Titan during the Mountain Buster phase. You know, when things hit hard and I have to manage incoming damage with all my cooldowns. And thinking on it it's only those 2 fights. Everything else is just boring.

I much prefer my WAR and plan to bury my PLD stuff once 2.1 hits.

Summoner is the least fun class to play.

My main class in Summoner and I do enjoy it. Summoner is like the "Swiss Army Knife" class of FFXIV. A tool for nearly every occasion! "MORE DOTS!!!"

I have enjoyed reading the opinions about Paladin and I do plan on leveling it as my second main. ;)

Shield Swipe needs to be more useful (aka, part of the the standard threat rotation) and PLD would feel a bit more engaging since you'd have to watch for it and react, as the window to use it isn't all that long. Might change the preference between Tower/Kite/Buckler, but not like there's a ton of all three of those at every level range to pick and choose from at the moment.

Some people like a class that just works. The fight itself can provide the engagement. Rather than spending most of their time having to focus on class mechanics they can instead focus on the fight (and how it differs from other fights). Good to have options.

There are those that love Summoner for all the micro managing you have to do to play optimally. Others will hate it for the same reason.

Forgive me, but isn't a class being "fun" subjective? Asking the public if you should find something 'fun' is kind of a silly concept...but whatever, have at you I suppose.

They need to give PLD a finishing third WS for ending the riot blade combo.

You can pretty much play PLD and read a book at the same time. Besides a handful of cool downs ,that really only matter in a couple of situations, all you do it spam one combo and flash.

What I found most frustrating when playing my paladin was the number of buttons that were just super niche (whereas instead the Warrior in those same slots get additional combo moves and varied offensive options).

You have spells like Tempered Will and Cover which have an extremely narrow scope of usefulness. Then you have Sword Oath, which isn't bad at all but is still sorta niche and just takes up space more often than not... and even when you do use it has a really lackluster benefit from a thematic and visceral perspective. Which when compounded with the already reactive design of the class leaves you with just a very limited set of active options.

Then you have stuff like Flash which is mechanically very sound but also rather boring from a design perspective.

And there's some mechanics that feel underutilized: Riot blade - MP dump is a cool mechanic, but the only thing you have to reliably spend MP on is Flash which, again, isn't a particularly interesting spell even if it's good.

Personally I'd love to see an offensive MP dump of some kind. Or a third hit in the riot chain. Or cover becoming a more usable skill.
