FFXIV database websites

Hey, guys. I'm really excited for patch 2.1! How do websites such as ffxivdb, ffxiv wiki, gamerescape, etc. go about updating their loot lists? Above all the content we will be receiving, I'd like to see loot lists for the dungeons/primal battles to see what'd be worth the time grinding out. Thanks!

They're most likely not going to come out and tell you cause in the terms of service there's this section that states:

2.5 Data Mining. You may not intercept, mine or otherwise collect information from the Game using unauthorized third party software.

Not on these forums at least.

Datamining and pulling data off of SE's servers. It's pretty much how they do it, there's honestly no other way to do it properly without at minimum an api. They won't tell you the inner workings so you can't try to become "competition" to them.

Somehow the other fan driven databases manage to get updated... perhaps they have a legitimate way to do so? Otherwise they probably would get shut down?

They do it much like any other way to do it (which isn't fully "legit" based on ToS) but considering said sites are very useful tools to the community, much like FFXIAH, they won't shut it down as long as you don't display unreleased data - This is why it takes them a long time to update their own database because it will show stuff not available to us.
