    Issues when in Fullscreen

Hello everyone. Presently I am trying out a crossfire configuration with two HD6800. Aside from the occasional issues where FPS plummet to 15, I can play with around 40 or more fps most of the time.

This forces me to play in fullscreen mode however, which I have never done with FFXIV before because I did not like how the game looked at that screen mode. I do not understand why, but the edges of the windows are glitchy and the font simply looks weird.
This fullscreen issue does appear whether or not I have crossfire enabled. The second card has arrived a week ago, and I have been playing ever since the beta with these issues when I turn on Fullscreen, so it is not a crossfire bug.

    PC:
    Asus p5K E
    Q6600 @ 3.2mhz
    Kingston Hyper X @ 1066mhz
MSI HD 6850 OC Cyclone edition
    XFX HD 6870
    2 x SATA HDD Raid 0
    Windows 7 64bit Pro
2 Asus VW222 - Changing the screen changed nothing.

Fresh Windows installation, reinstalling the game, changing card drivers, changing where the game is installed, etc, have not fixed the issue.

Curious thing: Screenshots do not show the issue. It all appears quite nice, however on the game client, set to fullscreen the font is messed, and the windows edges are glitchy.

Just curious... how was the game holding up with just the 6870 in there? I thought about x'ing my older 4870 and 4850, but at the time people were having a lot of issues with XF and SLI, so I just nabbed a 5870 cheap off ebay (talking like $68 cheap), and it's holding up quite well on my old XP box (4ghz Dual-core rig).

Just wondering if you really NEED to run two GPU's for this game--just one may suffice (unless you're running some ungodly resolution or eyefinity setup).

Eyefinity doesn't require 2 GPUs to function.

That said, OP have you tried just looking at the game resolution? If the text looks weird or blurry that's usually the first thing I check.

Can you post a screenshot of your Video settings?

it can if you don't have an eyefinity series (ie, one that can take 6 displays).

Note that I was talking about unusually large setups. Pretty much any card from 5000 series forward should natively support up to 3 displays no problem--beyond that, you may need 2 cards. It all depends on how far out you are going, and what specific hardware is involved. The point was, with a normal configuration, just one card might be sufficient for this game.

I can agree there. The game is beautiful and graphically intensive but the zones are small enough that it shouldn't be too hard on the cards (basically, it's not like Skyrim).

Hello everyone, thank you for the replies.

Yes, the XFX 6870 runs the game quite well, I believe my main bottleneck on my system is the CPU Q6600, though with it overclocked to 3.2 or, 3.4, whatever it is, it helps a bit. (Here's to hoping my new SSD will help in model loading etc... I'll let you guys know next week lol). Do take note however, that while the card gets stressed during FATEs, Instances are a breeze, due to the lower model count.

I'm playing with the crossfire config simply because the 6870 was a freebie. Might as well put it to use, right? But my issue stands whether or not I have it turned on (or even with the card inside the pc).

Indeed, the font does look like it is being altered, by having the wrong resolution set up. However I did confirm the resolution, and even tried all other resolutions available in FFXIV. I seriously don't get it. But anyway, I'm going to try the same thing in another, rather sismilar pc, with another 6870, and a Q8300, and see what happens.

About eyefinity: No such thing yet, only have two screens for not, and both are 1680x1050. Will be getting a new mobo and an i7 4770k before getting the third screen. And maybe another SSD for Raid 0...Decisions...
