How the Duty Finder should be and why menus are boring

What I miss from playing beta pre duty finder was having to go to the dungeon you wanted to do and stand in front of it to look for. The duty finder is a great idea.. The way I think it should work is that there should be an npc out front and asks you if you would like to partake in the dungeon and if you would like him to find you other adventurers to party with and find a group that way rather then going through instances... because why make this beautiful world if you can just do everything through menus?

I do understand coil is the one exception to this..

This takes the fun away from it for me.. Part of the fun in XI i had was making it to the dungeon.. id love to see a more threatening over world.. even 1.0 delivered on this.. I walk around fearing nothing.. there should be level 90 mobs roaming around or something.. like if you never had to run to the moogle fight in 1.0 and avoid the treants / spriggans while gathering keystones i feel sorry for you

This isn't going to happen. Duty Finder is here to stay, buckle up.

After you've visited it the first time, do you really want to run out there every single time? I sure don't. Menus aren't "boring" when they bring you to the content you want to play faster. If you want to see the beautiful world, you don't have to use the menus. Go wander around nice and slowly.

This takes the fun away from it for me..
So you're trying to tell me standing around and waiting is fun?

It's not like you can't explore the world or do anything else while you're waiting for a duty. It's not like you can't form parties on your world by heading to any populated gathering place.

One thing I really disliked in other games I have played was having to put the fun on hold if I ever wanted to do a dungeon. Here, I can do whatever I feel like doing in game while I wait. I can even queue up for several different things and hop in as soon as something pops up. That's terrific flexibility, and one feature of FFXIV I particularly enjoy.

To each their own, I know.

What you want is already in the game - how different is a targeted entrance to an npc who asks you if you want to enter the dungeon? It still does the same thing. If you want to make your way to the dungeon manually with a full pre-made party, you're fully welcome to (and in fact, by doing that you can get away with weird party formations, like all DDs if you want - how successful you would be though is another matter! ).

Besides, you still have to make your way to the entrance of the dungeon anyway to actually activate it in the Duty Finder, making this arguement kind of moot.
