    New Player/Newb Questions

    Hi all.

Bought the game 2 days ago and really enjoying it so far.

I am wondering about crafting and jobs.

Right now I am a lvl 16 lancer and have only focused on leveling that class.

What I am wondering is: What is the most efficient way to go about leveling other classes and/or crafting.

I don't mind grinding at all, I expect it honestly. But what I do mind is inane backtracking. The more things I can get done at one time the better it is.

So, what's the best way to knock out multiple birds with one stone during the leveling process?

And on a side note, can someone please link the most comprehensive gear guide to FFXIV ARR, and possibly the most quality guides on the game itself?

I have been looking on google and there seems to be quite a bit of info spread across many sites, and I figure some of the more experienced here could recommend the best.

    Thanks in advance!

    See ya in game.

EDIT: Also, when is the proper time to begin investing gil in gear instead of using quest rewards? And does anyone have advice on where to get better gear drops (I've seen some "green" items on the MB) that I'd never buy/can't afford anyway but wouldn't mind grinding for.

Best advise anyone could give you...is here.

Log out in a place to give you rested exp.

Never use Leves on anything but Crafting or Gathering.

Utilize FATES...Party up if you can, if not still USE THEM.

As a DRG, have LB on a hotbar.

If you want to craft your armor lvl Mining and ARM ... if you wanna craft your own weapons lvl Botany and CRP. (suggest ARM if that's what you wanna do...even though CRP 50 is much more useful than ARM 50)

Convert all your 100% used gear for materia.

Save your sh*tty materia! or sell it if you wanna

Find a helpful LS or FC!!!!!

    Nice, thanks.

I didn't know about the leves utilization (already quested through all my allotments ;/ )

Why party up for FATES instead of soloing or killing completing w/ multiple solo-er's?

Am I going to be crafting all of my own gear at end-game? If so, is it better to start lvling that stuff now?

Thanks for the materia/used gear tips too, wish I'd have known ><

Some tips that worked out for me

I did all the Start Quests in my home town, but when I got to the new cities and close areas I did not do any of the lv1-15 tasks - I saved them for my second (and third) classes (u can level up very quickly to mid teens without effort)

Dungeons. Run them again and again again (good xp low-mid levels)

Craft/Gather. If u keep your craft near your Main, u can stop taking the goods as reward in quests and take the money. From level 15+ I took money 99% of time - always the money!

Market Board. If you're lucky some fool has listed something for 9 gil, instead of 250-500 gil

FC/LS. I trade a lot with my FC/friends; goods for services etc. Between us all we have nearly everything, e.g. swap 99 Mahogany logs for a lv44 Botanist axe from my blacksmith friend, or countelss leathers with my goldsmith friend for crafting jewelry.

This game is the best fun I have had for a long time! Glad you are enjoying it!
    Have fun!! Always have fun!!

about the green items: some of them can be crafted, but most of them are drops from dungeons. You unlock most of them by pursuing your main story (lvl 15 should be the first one), others are unlocked by NPCs in vesper bay (the main story will lead you there) or by an npc in your grand company (the main story will force you to join one of those at lvl 20).

Partying for fates is good because it gives an increased likelyhood of getting exp from kills, things die so fast its hard to damage them enough to get any xp from kills, its also easier to get gold rank in fates, especially on bosses. you also get %50 exp from fates on all of your lower level classes.

Some endgame gear can be crafted, but most is from dungeon drops/ or the tomestone (endgame currency) vendor. Crafting can help fill the voids, but you are fine skipping it. But if you are a crafter you can repair your own gear, and put materia in your own gear.

As far as crafting and gathering goes, I'd advise leveling them all up evenly. The way the system is designed, the items you gather at level 20 will be used in level 20 recipes to make level 20 gear. Also, crafting HQ items (the main reason to craft) is MUCH easier through the use of cross class abilities. Finally, until level 50 all your crafters use the same gear, and all your gatherers use the same gear.
