Hello, is anyone here willing to tell me something about Allagans and Coil of Bahamut that I can't know from FFXIV storyline and cutscenes? (Some info from other FF games or stuff)![]()
The Allagans were an ancient race that inhabited Eorzea long before the current city-states. Very little is known about them or has been revealed thus far; not sure if you're looking for spoilers or not but the Binding Coil in ARR is meant to be a progressing investigation into what lies below the surface of the continent as well as what the motives of the Allagans were. So far it would appear that they owned technology far more advanced than that of present day Eorzean civilizations.
It should go without saying that any explanation of the Binding Coil will be riddled with spoilers...
The concept of a long-dead civilization which had become far more technologically advanced before dying out is a recurring theme in Final Fantasy games. This is a recurring trope in Sci Fi and Fantasy fiction, generally speaking. When the name of the civilization hasn't been known, they have often simply been referred to as "The Ancients."
The Allagans possessed Magitek and Magic far beyond anything that Eorzea or Garlemald currently possess. This is particularly evidenced in the type of enemies fought inside Binding Coil and the appearance of the Allagan Weapons which can be obtained from clearing the final wing (Turn 5) of the Binding Coil.
The Binding Coil itself appears to be a large portion of Dalamud which is still in tact. Like the Dalamud Talons that can be found all over Eorzea, the Binding Coil is surrounded by and partially formed of vast amounts of over-aspected crystal which formed upon these Dalamud component's impact on the ground.
Our access to the Binding Coil is located physically below Castrum Occidens in La Nocea, with the instance portal being located in Wineport. From what is found upon initially entering the dungeon, The Garleans had created a dig site to investigate The Coil before adventurers arrived there. While the fortress at Occidens still had some Garlean troops around it, the dig site seemed to be entirely unguarded. This is likely a result of the events surrounding the end of the main storyline.
Eventually you find within The Coil the immense, catatonic form of Bahamut. This leads to a bunch of as-yet-unaswered questions. These include: How was Bahamut bound here? What happened between what we see in The End of an Era cutscene and Bahamut's binding? Why doesn't anyone remember anything about Bahamut being as much a pat of "The Calamity" as the fall of Dalamud itself? Gaius Van Balesar implies that he may, in fact, remember everything. If this is so, he is the one exception to all other NPC's encountered throughout the game. What caused Bahamut to seemingly stir briefly at the very end of the main storyline? How is Louisoix involved with all this?
So many unanswered questions.
Ty for the info and speculations. So far Ive been to coil T4 and watched all cutscenes but well.. I am really hungry for some more informations so I hope that T5 and other turns (in future) will reveal much more.![]()
