While I understand what you mean, as I stated in my OP, I think the lack of life in the game is what drove a lot of players away other than the battle system. I should be immersed within the cities from the get-go when I enter them, not have to look for other players to feel immersed.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

Yes the idea of a bustling Adventurer's guild comes from having actual Adventurers. I like the idea of having roaming NPCs for sure though, but mostly the intention was to have what XI had a lot of players in the city centers.
You can't have too much activity either I imagine for loading reasons. A bit more life would be welcomed but most of it should really be coming from the players themselves.
Oh yeah that was really cool, added a lot to the immersion factor.I actually liked it when the vendors closed in FFXI. It gave a bit of a sense of reality lol. Or like you said, they could switch shifts. Not once in FFXI did I ever go "Gah, the fact that the vendors in this game close for a few hours in the night really messes this game up."
