    New Player Lore Questions

I decided to try FFXIV and really love it so far. I am trying to get kept up on the story/lore to understand what is going on.

During the calamity, who exactly gets sent to the future? Just the adventurers, or everything that was present there? What happened to Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn, Kan-E-Senna, and Raubahn Aldynn, since they were present at the Calamity. Did they just survive and stay put, or were they sent into future as well?

As far as the memory erasing part, did this effect everyone in Eorzea, down to the poorest of refugees? And what did they exactly forget, just the adventurers identities? Everything else they remember?

About Bahamut. I am pretty sure this is yet to be revealed in the game from what I gather. What exactly happened to him after everyone was sent to the future? Did he get sent somewhere as well, or did he just decide not to kill/destroy everything and go back to sleep? How is it not a single person that was there can tell us what happened to Bahamut?

And what ever happened to Alph's sister? She just kind of disappeared. The main story really doesn't explain anything. It is like the world ending horrible apocalypse was really more of a minor inconvenience as somehow in the subsequent few years everyone and everything recovered and Bahamut was bound. Even though no one remembers anything. For some reason.

The players were teleported ahead, Lou died, but somehow all the faction leaders and Gaius were perfectly fine when Bahamut Limit Broke.

Dunno. Makes no sense. But Japanese game stories never really make sense anyways. Remember FFVIII?

Now, I haven't done any of it yet, but this strikes me as something that will be revealed through the as-yet-unfinished story arch for The Binding Coil of Bahamut.

As far as anyone knows, it was only the Adventurers who were present at the Battle of Carteneau (the 1.0 players' characters) that were put in the state of limbo for 5 years. It wasn't really explained how the GC leaders survived, but there are events that take place in the Binding Coil of Bahamut that would give some insight as to why they were unharmed.

Everyone in Eorzea, apart from Minfilia since she commands the power of the Echo, had their memories altered about the Warriors of Light. People can recall them, but actually picturing the heroes of Carteneau even as they stand in the faces of people always turn up a blank.

As far as Bahamut goes, some of the story is revealed in Binding Coil what happened to him, but it's also a story that will continue to be built on as they release more areas within the Binding Coil.

She shows back up in the Binding Coil of Bahamut and will most likely be tied to that storyline.

Orophin basically summed it up, but to clarify, SE revealed a while ago it wasn't actually all the adventurers who were on the battlefield at Carteneau who were teleported five years into the future by Louisoix's spell - it was specifically just a small handful of adventurers who had succeeded in destroying the Lunar Transmitter which had summoned Dalamud (these players ended up starting ARR with a special cutscene of them teleporting directly into their starting city, and various npcs saying they 'look familiar').

It's unclear what happened to the rest of the adventurers from that time and what they had spent the intervening five years doing, regardless whether they were at Carteneau or not, or why they reappeared like new adventurers on a carriage/ferry, but I have my theories.

It's also unclear exactly how the GC leaders escaped the devastation, although Merlwyb does mention during the level 15 envoy quest that at Carteneau 'the last thing she remembered is being enveloped in a white light', with her next memory being when she came to an indeterminate amount of time later on the 'still smouldering battlefield', to realize Bahamut was gone. So, perhaps Louisoix's spell also teleported the GC leaders to safety, albiet briefly. Or else they were just knocked unconscious by whatever force stopped Bahamut in his tracks. In any event, that will hopefully all be revealed in due time.

1: Only the adventurers which fought at the battle of Cartenaeu were sent into the future. The GC leaders and NPC characters in the GCs stayed behind, and spent the past 5 years repairing Eorzea.

2: Absolutely everyone. And judging by dialogue, it appears to simply be the appearance of the warriors of light.

    3: That's a big spoiler. Want it?

4 [StarHate]: she appears later in the storyline as she doesn't believe working with the GCs is the best way to go about her endgame. Again, big spoiler!

Furthermore, not everything and not everyone are/is recovered. A lot of NPCs died, and places like the Silver and Golden bazaars aren't half of what they used to be.

5 [StarHate]: The GC leaders retreated eventually, and were okay. Assumedly, they hid out. Gaius van Baelsar was okay as he states in 1.0 that he will watch from "on high" and is shown in the end of an era CS in one of the empire's warships.

    Hope that helps!
