    materia and combat classes.

After i found out about the materia from gear "consuming" the item i thought "well more help to crafters i guess" (i think they have plenty at this point) but then i got to thinking after someone mentioning FF9.

Why not have the materia come from the gear and not get destroyed? This way all 3 desiples get a way to contribute, and noone gets the bad end? Combat classes have to spend what will very likely be tons of gil experimenting and even afterward, having to likely pay a jacked price for gear that turns into the good ones. Im not sure thats truely fair, especially if your not big on crafting and gathering.

I honestly think having the gear create materia 1 time (that way people who want the gear and not just to use it to make materia) can get what would be a reduced price for the already "used" piece.

Do you think that sounds fair enough?

I think they are trying to solve the "Gil sink" problem, because everyhas gil and barely nothing to spend it with, (which I do agree on)

I think what was suggested by the devs is fine. Gatherers find the catalyst. Crafters attach materia. Adventurers use the gear and convert it to materia or request new/better materia. No one's really getting the short end of the stick here, all types of classes are involved unless I've misunderstood something.

From my understanding gear can be converted to materia at a certain point which crafters then have to attach to new gear with the catalyst the gatherers get.

normal gear isnt that hard to obtain materia will only enhance your customization and options. People probably wont blow up thier good gears. Only blow up gear that you have something better of

what i mean is the only people who nead to really "waste" anything are the combat classes, they must have their gear "consumed" (aka: it goes away) to do our part of the system. Crafters equip it (loose nothing) gathers get them from mining or w/e (loose nothing).

i think the only reason it goes away is because they cant come up with a way of making the gear show its been used (maybe a coding thing?)

No, I think they want it to go away so that it's out of the system entirely. This way crafters benefit from this as they need to make more items as it takes item out of circulation. Gatherers also benefit from this as the crafters now need more items to keep up with the demand.

I think if Crafters and Gatherers use their gear it will likely gain AP just like it would for an Adventurer and could be consumed for Materia. All that Gatherers do is obtain the catalyst which is used to bond materia to an item. All crafters do is slot the materia into the item. All three likely can consume items to become materia.

All it says is that when you use armor and weapons (probably also tools) it gains AP and can eventually be turned into Materia. Nothing says it won't work for Gathers and Crafters too.

most people would love to give up their old items to get new power in their higher ranked items.

How about you let the system get put in the game before you start trying to change it? lol

If they can store the affinity number per piece of gear, they can store whether it's been used.

The problem this solves is the problem of market saturation of non-consumable items.
Is it a waste? Even if a combat class doesn't need a materia, it gives them a way to sell that iron short sword when they're done with it, either as a materia , or due to increased demand as iron short swords are consumed.
