Yes you can work around it. But just because you can work around crap doesn't change the fact it's crap.

If 3rd party software alleviates the lag issue you're experiencing, it points to the issue being on the client-side and not on the server-side, since if the issue is on the server-side, no matter what software you use, you'll still be experiencing the same lag.I agree. This is a part of the problem. It gets old fast.
I'm confused by people who defend the game and claim it's all the player's fault and then list the third party software/subscriptions they use to make their game work. If you have to use third party software or memorize what will happen before it happens, the game is broken.
I just got the new LoZ game. If I popped it in my 3DS and it didn't work, then asked around and got told, "It's FINE, just download this patch from this place that isn't even Nintendo and you can play the game!", my reaction wouldn't be that the game is working as it should. So why is this the reaction from so many people for FFXIV? I understand, "I'm not having an issue so I don't care", but I don't understand, "The game has no issues it must all be on everyone else' end!".
What is muddy here is that players can't distinguish if it is a client issue or server issue and simply lumping it all as server issue; this ultimately wouldn't help players in resolving their inherent lag issues effectively.
It reminds me of the black plague where people believed its the smell that causes it and as a preventive measure, carries potpourri to mask the smell without really knowing that the smell isn't the cause of the deaths.
