My dps/healer Friends just don't understand.

So cha. I got this game along with my friends from beta. We had fun, and we enjoyed it together. Blah blah, good times. When I first touched this game in beta, I was a Monk, and it was fun and I loved the way they did the game. I wanted to become a Gladiator, because, well, it's cool.

So one of my friends became a Black mage, the other, a Monk, Another was a dragoon, and lastly my other friend became a healer. With me as the Paladin we almost all had our own thing going. When the game came out for people who preordered I hit the ground running, reaching lv 50 before all my friends. I was way, WAY ahead of my friends, but then I hit a very annoying wall.

Trying to get the philosophy and mythology tombs was LOADs harder for a tank than it was for a healer or a dps it seemed. I found myself, even in the later parts of the game with the coil, always being way behind because of the way they handed the armor system.

For example. I'm sitting on 800 Myth because I need to save up for my legs and feet simultaneously simply because the armor designer thought it was a smart idea to put the two lv 70 items into one single item. I had to deal with this same problem with my head and chest. Sure the jump in power is massive when you double upgrade from one lv 70 dark light thing into two lv 90's but it puts me behind week to week.

My black mage friend almost has full lv 90 in every slot, and my Monk friend is ready for turn 5 while I'm here being unlucky in coil and not being able to upgrade my equipment effectively. Because this bullshit, I went from being extremely ahead to being a week behind in armor lv every other week.

So now my friends are complaining about why I'm so behind, and they don't understand that because they're upgrades are always consistent, they were able to hit coil before me. Like, my Monk friend had his +1 and a lv 90 chest for example and was doing turn 2, and I'm just here like. Gee I wish I could just get my +1 and lv 90 chest and not have to worry about the AK head I have on. It was like he got a 4 point upgrade while I went up 4 points and down 2. Sure I upgraded, but not at the rate as he did. So I'm basically like two coil weeks behind because of the annoying bullshit.

P.S. I've done coil on my friends Monk account. DPS's job is easy street. I had to lv a healer class to even be a PLD, and I'm now about to reach lv 50 with my white mage. Why is it that tanking is harder than dps and healing, but the rewards are bullshit backwards?

I don't know, maybe I'm just stressing things out because my friends don't seem to even want to understand the obvious limitations during the early stages of late game and how it effects how long it takes me to transition into true end game.

Also, I feel like Yoshi-p did some hax stuff to increase the black mage drops during the early stages of this game of the early months because my friend who started the same time I did almost has full lv 90 gear best in slot. They should make it so the paints or feet have an increased drop rate so that tanks can get out of their jail. I mean, it's too fucking late for me, but maybe some other tanks can lv up to the same level as a dps and healer at the same rate.

As a PLD you can tank turn 1-4 in Darklight with no myth. This is an annoyance but it shouldn't keep you out of coil... not that tank loot drops in coil anwyays. RNG hates tanks

Like he said. Me and people from my main coil group were bored so we made alts to run a 2nd group. We created our chars last week and had our first run this week, most people in the group had no better than DL and crafted gear and we cleared 1 through 4 without any issues. Took a few tries to get used to our new roles but other than that it was smooth sailing and we even had some good attempts at turn 5.

I went in as a warrior, relic (not +1), darksteel chest/gloves/legs, hoplite belt, DL accessories, and a lvl 48 ring or something I forgot. So you can stress all you want about the gear but if you do the mechanics right you don't need it.

Aside from what is said above.
The end costs of all the gear is exactly the same.
A hoplite head with myth/allagan body is better than the DL body/head combo piece anyway so you can safely do that.
A hoplite feet with myth/allagan legs is better than the DL legs/feet combo piece anyway so you can safely do that.
None of your pieces cost more than theirs, look at the final stats, realize that you can progress 1 piece at a time just like them and stop thinking that because it doesn't all match it must be all bad.

I don't tank Coil (my WAR doesn't have nearly enough Accuracy to do it) but I can heal Coil. However, my WHM (and soon SCH) are almost entirely i70 with Relic (I got the Allagan Choaker of Healing after clearing T2 as a WHM, and didn't have my Astral or Rose Gold gear when I cleared it first)

As long as you hit the Accuracy cap and have at least decent stats in everything else important (and are at least competent as a tank), there really shouldn't be any issues with your gear. Don't forget too, that the Casters and Heals usually have a similar problem, since their DL body and head are one piece and most don't have a clue about those wonderful dyable Vanyas.

Just get the myth and wear the hoplight with it. As Elasandria points out, myth/hoplight combo is an upgrade over the DL.

    I fully agree with TC.

And also, darklight armor+head is ugly as ####.

    For those suggesting myth+hoplite...
    Yeah that makes sense.
    But the RNG hates Tanks.
I got hoplite armor, but I've yet to see hoplite trousers, and I've ran AK more than 40 times by now... (I have myth boots + Vermilion Skirt from WP and it's been like this for a month)

I'm pretty sure myth/i55 crafted is still an upgrade over DL.

It is actually easier to gear as a tank as their is never a queue for tanks, unlike DPS (very long) and healer (sometimes long). While yes tank have the unfortunate problem of 2 double parts, it is still the exact same number of tomes to upgrade as a tank as a DPS or healer, so its same number of weeks. Further, myth legs + AK feet is a big upgrade from DL leg/feet. same goes for myth chest + AK helm, so you do not have to wait to get both to upgrade. With CT right around the corner, you can choose you 1 loot to be that head or feet to make both parts upgrade at the same time also.

Further i tanked coil 1&2 as a WAR in myth head, ak chest, with the rest DL without any issues, and likely could have done t4 also had my groups DPS been high enough before I upgraded more of my gear. So i dont see why the OP says you have to sit on the sideline and wait and watch. Also, i dont see how since everyone has same cap each week he falls so far behind his friends..
