I know GamerEscape does a rather good job, even having a section dedicated to lore.

Funny that nobody mentioned the most obvious sources:

Doh of course the Libra. Bah and it is sitting next to me on my iPhone, for ease of use of information (no alt-tabbing out of game to look something up just as DPS DF queue pops and I miss it) and because I also use the one time password app. Great collection of info on there. Where to go for quests, etc.

Gamerscape is nice but some pages had bad data, didn't really look beyond that though. I've since updated the Chocobo page to be accurate but I've never edited a Wiki page before.
(Someone had the DRG Choco as Sleipnir, BLM as DPS Build lol)
