SE Censoring Emote ability due to select few is not the answer.

We're glad you guys are excited for the new emote to use in Free Company Housing beds, and understand many of you want to use it elsewhere as well. However, the team has decided against the use of this emote in other places to prevent the taking of not especially appropriate screenshots. Likewise, the new emote cannot be used on Inn beds because lying down on that bed logs a player out of the game.

I feel like this is a discussion more about any/all censoring of FFXIV based on actions of select few. This feels like a bad business model to say "We won't let anyone use this because a few people do naughty things with it..." even though there are already plenty of actions and even story arcs within the game that are what many would consider "not especially appropriate"

People want variety and the freedom to use commands how they want. If they do "not especially appropriate" actions with it, they are hussies and should be ashamed. But that shouldn't stop the majority from using commands that would normally enhance their game play.

There's a difference between implication and people actually inacting it.

A 'Lady of the night' NPC saying "Come hither my dear" or the lalafell in Costa Del Sol whos "Pleased many a woman in his 50 summers of life", are implied.

Actually seeing the bump and grind would and is considered inappropriate.

But that shouldn't stop the majority from using commands that would normally enhance their game play.

If you type /doze near a bed you'll actually get a resting animation.
The devs were worried people might abuse this and do things inappropriately so they restricted it to FC housing.

Really? Well, while that's true, there's pretty blatant stuff out there.

You mean the hooker in Costa del Sol who specifically says that she charges by the hour, and that she's been paid for by the Lalafell guy who runs Costa to service the Roe down at the Hidden Falls area?

What about Sapphire-Eyes and Ruby-Eyes and Ser Longhaft, wherein both make really obvious comments about their relationship. I mean, it's really blatant that he's sleeping with them both, even if we don't actually see them getting it on.

There's a quest in Little Ala Mhigo where it's fairly obvious the female NPC was sexually assaulted.

There are numerous NPCs in Sastasha that make it clear they're being held against their will to service the Pirates. One in particular makes a comment along the lines of, "Oh, please not again, Captain, I'm so sore!"

There's suggestive clothing (the Coliseum set, anyone?), NPCs labeled as prostitutes and courtesans. I could go on - there are more examples!

But you think it's all just implied? Um...suuuure...

No. People want to be able to use a simple emote anywhere they want to use it. You know there are uses for a /sleep emote other than ERP, right? Whose mind is in the gutter now? o_O

I don't really care if the option was there, but to actively complain that you can't /doze /surprised people for a little fun on the side of the plate is just silly.

Wonder if it's the same people who complained when SE closed Mithra's legs more in their new /sit animation in XI.

If you think that this is not already going on with existing emotes, you are either extremely sheltered or willfully ignorant.

1. You can't be sheltered in a video game.
2. It doesn't go on as much as you think - You get the occasional people try to but considering Balmung I assume is the RP server, of course you'll see that type of behavior there more. I can go to any crowded spot on my server and not see even lalafells trying to air hump someone lol.
3. This emote would promote it much more for an obvious reason. It's not like people abusing /pose pictures because even SE knew it would be inappropriate if you even remember when they announced that emote.

Lastly, there's no reason to complain about this. Plenty of "ERP" themed MMOs out there if this is such a big deal lol.

Personally I am not surprised at all. I have come to expect these "babysitting" tactics from SE because they've continually used them on us over and over...
