What is the most fun class to level?

Hey guys, Ive been playing for a week now and I'm getting tired of playing as an arcanist, feels like I'm spamming the same spell over and over (Ruin).

I want to level a Disciples of War class (non magic-user) and I'd like your help in picking which one to do. I would a class with which it isnt too hard to get into duties and with a varied playstyle.

    What do you recommend?

In my experience, Warrior is extremely fun.

Depends on what you like. Do you want to tank mobs or burn them down from the back? Do you like to lead parties or do you prefer to go along for the ride? Just choose something you like and you'll have fun playing the class (levelling is a side effect to playing the game, on your first class anyway).

Dragoon has a very long, set rotation, you basically alternate between 3 ability combos while moving behind or to the side of an enemy when appropriate. They are a bit more durable than other dps because they wear the heaviest armor of the DPS classes.

Monk has to chain abilities that shift him between different stances to build up their buff, greased lightning. From what I hear they mostly attack from the flank, but that might be changed in 2.1 making attacks that give a bonus from attacking from behind attractive, so they may become like the dragoon having to switch depending on the attack. The main disadvantage with Monk is it takes a bit of time to stack Greased lightning and start dealing full damage, and greased lightning can fall off if you cant attack the boss for a period of time for whatever reason (Ifrit charges for example)

Bard is more spammy you probably wouldnt like it, keep your dots up, keep your straight shot buff up, watch for procs and rotate cooldowns

Arcanist does become less spammy later on, especially once you get bio2, it then pretty much becomes a full DoT class, with Ruin being filler when you arent reapplying dots or using your atherflow abilities.

Any DPS is going to have the same Queue regardless. Tanks will have very little queue, if you are interested in that at all.

Bards atm have an easier time of getting into some groups, because of the utility they bring with their songs, and being able to move while attacking at range. They dont do as much RAW dps as say a Black mage or Summoner because of this.

I'd say, for a varried play style, give Pugalist/Monk a shot.

I would have to agree on this one.

I'd recommend going back to giving Arcanist a shot. It sounds like you didn't get very far with it. Every class starts with just one ability, and learns more as they level. So, while the first few levels are ruin spam, at later levels you'll rarely ever be casting that, as you'll have so many other things to focus on.

Arcanist/SMN as a dps dot class doesn't become really complex until Lv30 when you get Bane and Lv35 for Fester (SMN only). Until then, you are spending a lot of the time casting your two dots and filling the remaining time with ruin/energydrain.

If you haven't tried it yet, consider thaumaturge for a ranged magic dps. Their combination of damage and cc is interesting, as well as the decision you make switching between burn and mp recovery phases. In the worst case if you don't like it or switch to arcanist, you will have thunder and swiftcast. Two skills which will benefit your arcanist. If you decide to switch to BLM, you will still have access to all the arcanist abilities.

Archer is also worth trying as it will provide you with raging strikes, very useful for crit-fishing and improving your dps. The biggest difference between archer and caster playstyle is that you will be spending a lot of time as archer running and kiting mobs. It suits some players better than others. Quelling strikes isn't so much an issue, but can still be useful in some cases.

Otherwise, I would recommend warrior or lancer depending if you want a tank or dps. Both have very complex rotations. Healing with CNJ or SCH can also be very fun as there is no set rotation for that role. You become more dependent on finding parties, but most content is better tackled as a group anyway. They can also output a surprising amount of dps if played right.

For both fun and challenge, WHM is highly recommended.
You will be always on your toes, need to be aware of both enemies and teammates, and know a fight well.
WHM can do some serious DPS aside from healing.
    Nice outfit too

Leveled WHM, SCH, BLM and SMN to lv50. Find that ranged DPS classes are easier to play, but can be boring...healer classes are more engaging and demanding, but much more fun too.
