If a PvE ability is too strong for PvP, it needs to be modified only in PvP and they need to leave it the same in PvE.

That is one of the biggest problems in other mmos they put PvP over PvE and it should never happen in my opinion.
In FFXI several aspects of the combat system were modified while in a PvP match. You can keep PvE and PvP separate, believe it or not. Again, I really don't understand why people say no to PvP in FFXIV simply because of the FF title. It's not as if you'd be required to do it.

Yea I like how FFXI did it, although their PvP was the definition of unbalanced. If they add PvP I want it to be like that. 1 set of rules and dmg equations for PvP, and 1 set for PvE.

XI certainly did modify things for the PvP elements. Voke, forced your target on the WAR etc. The system was great with the exception of how you accessed it. The reservation system for Diorama or waiting for Ballista was dumb. And yes balance was severely off. BLM/RDM or BLM/NIN was nearly unstoppable at least in most of my heads up matches.

But, after playing Aion for the last year I have fallen in love with PvP in an MMO. There is no better way to show off your skills and gear. Unfortunately they destroyed the game to accommodate the mass that QQd about not being able to get PvP gear (The best in the game for PvP and PvE). I actually had to PvP for acceptance into a Legion in Aion which was absolutely awesome. No more "Let me see what gear you have and we will see".

I certainly hope SE comes up with a way to provide at least Arena/zone PvP. Even better if they implemented a rewards system along with it. I miss mah Balli****Stars

pvp in restricted zones/instances would be fine.

personally i despise pvp and cant think of anything more boring to do online, but for those that enjoy it, it would be good if they can have some areas to let pvpers get out their frustrations i guess.

as long as it in no way affected pve abilities or decisions to change them due to pvp balancing, way way too much of that in other games. its gotta be totally seperate and totally unaffected by eachother.

ff is not pvp based and i pray it never will be, alot came because it didnt have pvp.
keep it seperate, 100% and i think pvp and pve can work well somehow in ff14 one day.

Well to add on to my previous thread, I said I really enjoy PvP. I find pvp to be the best fun in these games. I enjoy the politics, territory game, muscle, etc that all goes into it. I just don't tend to enjoy it unless it has significant impact on the game world. EX: <insert mmorpg with instanced pvp> what happens there there no impact on anything, you could rescue the princess and kill all of your enemies but 10 minutes later the princess has reset and the enemies have respawned, nothing you did mattered(which leads them to institute point systems which further degrade any purpose by making it about points per hour). I can't see a system like that being put in FFXIV at this point, instanced arenas could happen, but it's not something I like so I wouldn't push for that as a pvp system, personally.

Well hope it keeps up a thread, cya.

i'd like to see some form of pvp added, after 5years of ffxi then moving onto warhammer witch was pretty much all pvp, it has grown on me alot. if ffxi had better pvp an a way to set up easier then balista i think the game would of been even more fun then it was. like pvepvp would be great, something like campaign battles with sides or something. also for some reason se not making it easy to set up like mentioned, if balista had a simple sign up and load in like scenarios, people till this day will be filling up ballista. it would of been that thing to do when u got 20-30mins between events an stuff. se needs to stop making running for an hour to even stuff like this a part of the game rather then playing battles for that hole time.

gw2 is making it so pve and pvp is absolutly seperate, also pvp has nothing to do with gear everyone starts at same level and gears no matter what level or what gear u have. i think that would make for competition to be fair and very fun.

cards would be cool, though i think i'd enjoy farming the cards more then acually playing, i'm picturing it like blue mage spells, i had great time collecting the spells then i really never used my blue mage for anything else but ixion. mini games in ffxi were horrible and stupid, they had lots of players circling them for a few months and then empty cause hint hint, they sucked. lets hope even if no pvp that the games they plan on adding are more fun then ffxi.

pvp can be great fun but balancing issues usually start killing the fun.

Its hard to have good, nice, fun and defined pve classes and on the other hand they have to be kinda "equal" in a lot of ways to have similar chances. PVP heavy games are full of balancing flamewars.. and usually the nerv-fest starts on dev site to get the pvp whining under control.

I don't mind it in controlled areas like you posted though. A good way to balance things for pvp is nerving stats for PVP only. But most games do the all over -nerv and this affects good pve... So i hope if it gets implemented, it doesnt affect pve.
