So after 3 months of playing I finally joined a free company...

I am so glad I did. Everyone is kind, and likes to help each other. I started this game with a solo mentality and didnt want anything to do with others unless forced into a dungeon.

To anyone sitting on the fence about joining one I say do it. I am eating crow and enjoy every delicous bite of it.

Glad you're having fun, but why would you even consider an MMO if you didn't want anything to do with others?

ahh yes.. mostly because of my wife and kids. They have a tendency to not understand how mmo's need time to do some things. i.e. wanting me to take out trash right when I get in a dungeon. But FC makes it easy. Im glad I was wrong

If an fc which have understanding n mature mentality then yes it can be great n fun and feel like a family working together. However I do like to add, not all fc are that way, just like real life, not everyone is nice. If you find one fc that isn't right for you, don't give up, as there are many communities out there just like in the forum some are great n helpful, others well not do nice : p

Alot of times, people are afraid to join free companies because many of these players come from single player rpgs. The world there interacts with them and they really don't need to interact back with the world. In MMOs, you have to interact with the world. Its like a whole new world to them and it can be frightening.

Agreed. I felt like it was too much of an obligation and didnt want to let people down. But it all seems to work out. My fc is very nice

You know, I almost never see the FC forums be used that Square offers. At least, none of the FC's I've been in have. Maybe some day. Anyway OP, if you can get other people on board with the idea of using the FC forums I'm sure you can pre-plan some stuff with other FC members (if that's not already used). With a busy life such as your, I'd say that should be a benefit.

Also, don't be afraid to make friends in this game. It can be so much more fun.

The problem with computer gaming is that you spend the time at home. Being "at home" appears that you "have free time".

Compare the same 4 hours time playing a video game versus playing golf. You don't get a phone call from the wife asking you to quickly run to the convenience store and get some eggs if you're playing golf. But you could easily be asked to do so if you're playing video games.

The same differing attitude also exist among players. There are some who thinks "it's just a video game" and will stop a pre-scheduled raid mid-progress because "real life friend called and we're going to the movies now".

That's just the sad realities of video gaming.
