    Summoner Pets

I've been playing as a CNJ for a couple weeks now and am still a beginner looking for advice. I noticed the other day a summoner in my party kept summoning pets. After a moment, I realized this was because the pets were dieing, and I could have been healing them. So is it general practice to heal the pets too? And if so, how do you go about keeping track of their health?

I don't know about other people, but I usually don't bother healing peoples' pets. That's what Sustain is for; and worse case scenario, they can simply resummon them. No need to waste your mp on them. If the SMN dies, that pet is gone, too, anyway.

Also, unless you're party doesn't have a tank, I can't think of a reason the SMN's pet would be dying so often. Maybe your tank just couldn't hold aggro? o_O

Summoner main here, imo you shouldn’t be healing our pet unless you’re ae’ing or in a group where titan-egi is mt’ing.

I would have to ask what the Summoner is doing to have their pet die so often. Especially since you should always be using Emerald / Garuda outside of very specific tankless occasions where you pull out Topaz / Titan. Ifrit is a waste.

But agreeing, Sustain should be enough. Most summoners are terrible at playing their job in general, however.

The other thing is (unless this was changed) it used to be that only the Summoner could target the summon for things like heals and buffs.

You *can* technically target the summoner's pet, even without a mouse. However, it has the lowest priority of any target on the field, especially in combat. Easiest way to target the pet is to get close to it, rotate the camera so that nothing else is in view, and then press the confirm button. This is because, for whatever reason, the targeting is based on your camera position.

Excluding Aurum Vale (because Aurum Vale), if the SMN's pet is dying, something is very, very wrong in that party. It's practically a complete non-issue once they get Garuda since she should never be remotely close to AoE attacks, but it seems most SMNs are unaware of the Place function.

Thanks for the responses. This particular pet was pulling aggro on it's own mobs and the tank wasn't picking it back up. So basically, the group was fighting one mob, and the pet was fighting another. I figured something was wrong with that setup, but I wasn't sure. I thought it might have been an attempt at CC.
