Thank you for the quick response. Now that I have my answer how do I close this thread?It's Greenwich Mean Time (based on the Greenwich Meridian), where east meets west, all other times are offsets from this. It's used on the JP data centre too.
It's not the time of any particular country, we don't even use GMT all year here in the UK where the line originated from. Seems like a good a time to use as any.

You can't, I'd just get some popcorn and watch the train fall off the rails and plunge headlong into irrelevant irreverence, and once people get bored of beating the Britain vs America horse, fade slowly into obscurity.

It's actually UTC (Coordinated Universal Time [don't ask me why it isn't CUT instead of UTC, it's probably a Romance Language thing.])
UTC is, for most practical purposes, the same as GMT. But the international scientific community decided that Britain couldn't have nice things.
