There is never ever, EVER going to be a "golden patch".
Change will come, there might be missteps along the way but eventually things will get to where they need to be. It will not be done in one solitary update.

An Aware, Informed, and Critical community is vital for the success of a game.~ John "Totalbiscuit" Bain
In other words, everything is gonna be built from here upwards.
So if the foundations is not of your liking nothing else will.
So far so good , i need to try it , but dont kid yourself saying this patch do not hold a LOT of weight. It does.
In response to the title question of this thread:
No!
Far from it. I think SE have moved around the table and yanked this game out of the fire with this one. Seeing the patch notes (notes? it was an essay!), I can see why it took so long for v1.18 to be served.
Loving everything in this patch. when things go live again, I shall be making a new char and rejoining the game after a long break![]()
nope. this is not the golden patch that you hope for, it's the beginning of many patch coming in the future with great contents/addition/features.
Have fun wherever you go!
I'm going to keep popping my head into Eorzea every once in a while, if only because I want to tell my grandchildren someday that I remember FFXIV.
But they probably won't believe me.
When I learned that SE was going into sorta "nose to the grindstone" mode to get these major fixes under way, some months back, I knew it was going to be some time before we really started to see the fruits of their labor.
I simply backed away from the game, came back after a couple notable updates to see what it was like, but mostly stayed away. I knew the current state of the game (at that time) would likely have not lasted for me (even at my slower-than-molasses pace). And I really wanted to experience the game as a lower level/new character when they went live. To that end, I recently recreated my character from scratch for that very purpose.
To me, no 1.18 is not the "final straw". Not by a long shot. This is the first true update where SE is finally releasing things that they've been researching, designing, developing, implementing, testing and so forth for all these months. To me, this is the first step of FFXIV's "second chance".
The past 6 months or so has been dedicated to getting everything these patches brings ready, so I wasn't expecting much from them during that time.
1.19 will only be the second.
I'm actually quite excited (though pensive as well) to see what the changes bring to the game.
It's unfortunate that there are some who are so jaded by this point that they are ready to call it quits after SE's just really gotten started moving forward. Maybe between 1.18 and, perhaps 1.19, they'll get some of their interest/enthusiasm back.
Patch notes seem very, very solid. if they don't introduce something unexpected, I would say it's opening the door to a potentially great game (If SE keeps it up).
Yea it is unfortunate that took them 1 year after release to put their act together. If anyone is to blame is them.Im pretty happy with today's patch. i want to play again.

i've been following this game since day 1 and have watched my friend play it for about a year. only reason i did'nt play myself was because i did'nt have a rig good enough until yesterday. but if you ask me, i could'nt have picked a better moment to join. patch 1.18 looks like the foundation for great things to come! i mean this game is'nt THAT bad prior to this patch anyways. i think people have saturated their hearts with tons of MMO's that just do the WoW thing, with a different dress on and now expect the same style from every MMO they touch. while i do agree that this game might have been released a bit too early, i also feel it needs more of a chance. they even went and had yoshi-p take over, (when's the last time you heard of a SE guy getting booted? that says ambition to me)
i personally played ffxi waaaaaaayyyyy longer (9 years-ish?) then i did WoW, and that game went through a myriad of changes, its almost a completely different game now.i bet if ppl that played ffxi recently went back in time to lvl 50 caps and absurd balancing issues(dragoons+penta thrust = why lvl anything else?) they would'nt know what to do with themselves. i know personally 1.18 set a fire underneath my arse, and i want to play rite nao.
