    Things FFXIV did right...

The ability to have 2 chat logs. (love that i can have one for just chat and everything else on the other ^^)

Character customization. (can't wait for them to add barber shops with new features ^^)

Lalafells. (yay for giving taru-tarus knees and elbows!)

Leves. (even though we're all probably sick of them by now, it's still nice to be able to log in and rank up solo if needed)

and all the things I /liked in other peoples posts ' w ')b

It's been said a number of times but character models. Especially the way the bottom of your mage robes move (and stop moving when you're not moving).

    About it though.

The good: Some of the CGI Plot scenes, the graphics, the game's potential and SEs goal to try something fresh and unique.
The bad: armoury system, lag, terrible action bar that was hastily implemented, menus, leves, no content, boring battle, lack of class uniqueness(I know they are working on this, but it something that should have never had to be worked on with a launched mmo), crafting mini game thing sucks, inconsitent formulas where stats do nothing and rank is everything(this in itself is an outrage, good job making gear with stats as worthless as hempen gear, and gives players no reason to take pride in their gear at all), and hundreds off other stupid things that should have been fixed before the game was launched.
The ugly: SEs autrocious UI, having everything check server side, is the biggest issue with this game atm. Unresponsive battle cimmands, unresponsive menus, unresponsive everyrhing. This realistically should take priority over a battle class overhaul, but whatever.
Even with all the bullshit in this game I play it. Not because I enjoy being feed crap, but because I believe this game has potential, potential to be even better than what FF11 was, potential to better than the majority of mmos. But SE needs to get on the ball, you guys are a great company, and you know what YOU need to do to fix it. I mean comeon, you made FF4 and FF: Tactics, and that is why I play your games. Don't let your fans down...

    the battle system.

ill be honest i went back to play ffxi today, and damn, that system really really was not good.

Having control of your types of attacks, linking to other attacks, positioning mattering, fast tp, and tp pools, a large variety of skills to choose from, being able to customize your skills to the type of fighting you may have to do. shorter more dangerous battles.
I know a lot of people hate the system, but imo it really was a cool thing. I hope the new battle system can capture its strengths.

Linking to attacks? We playing street fighter?

Position don't mean shit unless you're using a WS that like seismic shock.

Fast TP sure but the large variety of skills we get are often throwaway skills or the next tier of a move.

I just don't get the enthusiasm for this game's battle or suggesting that it's better than FFXI in any way outside of being faster at lower levels.

Actually, position does matter a little. I do more damage hitting an enemy from the side or back than from the front most of the time. I think it's just very underdeveloped and underexplained.

I understand that the concept is there but it's NOTHING like they hyped it up to be pre-release. Then again, neither was any other feature in the game. Still waiting for proper PUG stances not fucking light punch granting a small bonus for a short while.

Extending the "Free Trial" is the only thing they got right, yet I'm still too bored to play.

    Character Models are nice.

they let me link heavy>flurry, and evade>jarring>haymaker. This is the playstyle of a pugilist, so maybe it makes sense being like SF.
Position matters alot when you are trying to avoid unecessary damage, and fighting multiple monsters, you are more likely to get hit from the back and less likely to evade, also your directional and cone attacks are more usefull if monsters are roughly in front of you. at the same time you benefit from moving to avoid enemy Weaponskills. You also get more accuracy from attacking the monster in its rear.
you got basically 3 types of positional Ws
    line of target
    cone
    aoe

which to use, is very dynamic, especially on low man behests, or leves, and probably would have been even more so in dungeons.

You dont really have any throw away skills, you put the skills you want and need in place, if a skill is throw away you dont put it, dif WS serve different purposes.

    stuff i have on bar

heavy trammel low tp cost cone skill
aura strike enhanced flying damage and general aoe
concussive ACC lowering debuff and damage (integral to evasion tanking)

every skill i put on my bar has use, and there often skills i wish i could put in there, and i dont even have all the great skills.

FFXI battle, i went back today, you are used to it, you have done it for years, but its really bad. people talk about this games battle UI but ffxi? is a menu you literally have to scroll through skills to pop them, without putting macros, it would be nigh impossible to do something as basic as sneak attack boost >weaponskill.
    so then you learn macroing.
Battles are long and drawn out for no reason, i fought a easy prey sand lizard, it knew i was going to win, i knew i was going to win, i knew it would do about 40% of my health it knew it would, and yet it took an incredibly long time to kill.

the fight consisted of me hitting dodge and focus macros, and waiting for tp to do boost>asuran fists with a drain samba and curing waltz thrown in. There was no reason to dodge weapon skills, no reactive skills when i evade, or parry. I have virtually no choice of what weaponskills to do. there is one good weaponskill, and its the only weaponskill of any importance, once you do said weaponskill, you once again wait.

Individual battle in FFXI is horrible, team battle is just as boring, but at least your hanging out with people and can try to relish thier actions as much as your own.

you say faster at lower levels, do you mean battle pace, or exp gained? because i dont judge a battle system by exp gained.

really stop for a second and think, what about ffxi battle system itself is better than ffxiv? all i can really think of, is /assist.
