I'd rather not see summoner as a class or job.
In many single-player FF ( VI, VII, VIII, XII, XIII ) every character has access to summons regardless of class/job. Since the primals are part of the storyline, I would prefer to see summoned creatures available to all classes/jobs based on having completed high-level quests and making the relevant pacts.

    Great work with the chart!

The one job that peaked my interested from the chart was Engineer. To me it would seem to be a combination of Arcanist and one of the Disciples of Hand classes. Perhaps the only requirement would be to have one DoH class leveled to 20. The more 20+ DoH classes you have, the more skills an Engineer has access to.

As for what they would do in battle, I haven't the foggiest. It's not like there is a plethora of mech-based enemies wondering around in Eorzea that they could beat up or take over. Maybe Engineers would be the FFXIV version of a puppeteer.

You call out your machines during a fight, ones which you have built prior. (The opening Engineer quest would be to collect the materials you need to craft your first machine.) Different machines exploit different weakness of an enemy. And, of course, they need to be repaired occasionally, like any other piece of equipment.

Each DoH would have a specific, albeit simple, machine associated with it. While the more complex and complicated machines would require cross disciplines support in order to build and maintain.

    The Engineer's motto, "I don't use what I can't build."

And while we're at it, since I didn't see it mentioned anywhere...
    Ninja > Thief > Ranger
Bard > Dancer > Conjurer -- no idea what classes could unlock this

I was thinking of this as well, and I think it'd be cool if it were somewhat based on your Guardian Deity. Maybe if you pick Halone The Fury, you'd get access to Garuda, Pandemona, Valefor or some other wind-based Eidolon. If you pick Lymlean The Navigator, you'd have access to Leviathan, Bismark, Mist Dragon or some other Water-based Eidolon. Something like that.

...Hell, they just need to actually do something with the Guardian Deities...

I do like your idea but I personally hope they nix the Disciples of War/Magic and just make it a Disciples of Combat and then be able to mix classes easier that way. An idea I posted in another thread for a pet related class was:

    Pet Class - all rounder, non-specific, weaker(or shorter duration charms)/"jug" pets/spirits(elementals)/etc
    -Job1 stronger elements than class
    --Job1a use of primals
-Job2 imbue an elemental giving you an aura/spells
    --Job2a transform into a primal/humanoid race hybrid
    -Job3 temporary charm pets
    --Job3a permanently trap pets
-job4 gain use of some monster abilities
    --job4a transform into some monsters

The "a" stands for advanced and would be an advanced form of the job. This way each Class could evolve into X amount of Jobs that you could unlock via quest lines. You'd also be able to unlock them all and advance them all but only be able to be one at any time. Maybe some of the names could be (advanced in parenthesis): Elementalist(Summoner), Evoker(Primalist), and idk what names could be used for beast master and morpher... I'm too tired to think much.

Maybe they could take Lancer as it is and flesh out some jobs for it that incorporates already like Dragoon and Dancer. Maybe to get Dragoon you'd have to have the pet class leveled some and the Lancer class leveled some (to say 30 like in xi (not too hard to get but still takes a bit)) though to be true to the series DRG was also able to use rapiers like a fencer. Conjurer could unlock white mage (to be advanced into seer) and black mage (to be advanced into black wizard and maybe further into sage with THM leveled high enough) while a mix of THM and MRD could produce dark knight and GLD and THM could produce red mage... idk haha

I'm tired (4:25am) and these aren't fully fleshed out ideas but I wanted to get them out and apologize if I don't make much sense. I'll come back rested and maybe edit it if it needs it or reply in a more coherent post.

tl;dr - combine DoM/DoW into disciple of combat. less class combinations (or save for advanced versions of jobs), more jobs unlocked by one class. still keep some "light" combo's for the obvious DRK/RDM/ETC. Advancements to some or all jobs.

Have a look! I took some time to make this chart!! I think it makes sense!

I would prefer something different, personally.

But one query I would have if they took your approach is why Dragoon would be limited only to a lance.

Also thief should be able to use rapiers (fencing weapon) and crossbows if they ever implement them.

Just keeping it brief,I think that each class may have 1 job to start, but as the game grows and new content/expansions are released we will get advanced jobs.Hopefully those use a ff tactics unlocking system.there is so much potential here I hate to see it go to waste.

Very interesting but I don't want jobs passed over from FFXI.

You...you did Red Mage right. I'm impressed and releaved to see that someone finally got it. Even the "more emphasis on melee and enspells" part.

    I support this thread.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
