When I play the video game sure its for fun because I want to be wrapped up in the story and be taken on an adventure, its like when you see a film, you want to see something you'll get pulled into, but if you kept seeing wires or greenscreens or subtitles popped up because they didnt finish voicing you'd be pretty fucking annoying and it would "break immersion" because you would be to busy thinking "woah cant believe this film still has props lying around and a camera man stood behind Thor".
When a game becomes annoying and difficult to play and you're constantly reminded its just a game that is breaking immersion.

You are really comparing a movie to a video game? really? When I play the video game sure its for fun because I want to be wrapped up in the story and be taken on an adventure, its like when you see a film, you want to see something you'll get pulled into, but if you kept seeing wires or greenscreens or subtitles popped up because they didnt finish voicing you'd be pretty fucking annoying and it would "break immersion" because you would be to busy thinking "woah cant believe this film still has props lying around and a camera man stood behind Thor".

What is immersive in a movie? Well acted and believable characters and a story that keeps you interested and entertained the whole time. It's not about Thor's CGI effects, or about LOTR's well made decors. If you need to shoot a scene in Time Square you go there, you don't need to make a decor or a CGI Time Square. A good drama will be just as immersive as Thor or LOTR or wtv....
Video games. Do you need FFXIV or Crysis quality graphics to feel immersed? No. WOW has poor graphics by today's standards and yet it is highly immersive judging from all the players playing it. So what makes a game immersive? No it's not like a movie, you don't need believable characters or voice acting or even a good story. Mario galaxy can be just as immersive as anything else and it's just a platformer. Or if you play a racing game, you can either feel immersed playing a very realistic racing game like GTA5 and you will feel the same playing a game where you race with space ships.
playing a game where you have FUN and feel entertained the whole time. That is what is video game immersion.
Watching a movie doesn't need to be fun to feel immersed. It can be a horror or a sad drama.
A video game even if it's an action game, survival horror, platformer, racing game, mmo etc... they all need to be FUN to play.
Comparing Movies and Video games or Music is idiotic. They are all entertainment forms i agree but that is were the comparaison stops.

I'm not sure you know what immersion really means...What is immersive in a movie? Well acted and believable characters and a story that keeps you interested and entertained the whole time. "Immersion is the state of consciousness where an immersant's awareness of physical self is diminished or lost by being surrounded in an engrossing total environment; often artificial."
It also suggest a complete involvement. So..
Your "definition" of immersion is addictive. Your argument is that you would feel more "immersed" in the game if you had more "fun" (altho fun is relative) and that is not what immersion is really.
What helps immersion is actually things like the story, graphics :HD graphics helps but that's not the end of it, I mean graphics in a more general way that includes environment details and diversity in the world (less apparent copy/paste), ambient sound, interactivity with the world and objects, animations of the characters, bring the cities to life with NPC having their own lives and not just standing there regardless of the time of the day, mobs having different behaviors, even jumping/swimming (please don't flame) can add to immersion. Voice acting adds to immersion because it brings more life to the NPCs, etc.
What you state is the fun factor... a boring boring game can be immersive by definition. Of course if you don't find a game fun you won't feel involved but it's not implicit.

"I don't want to see people jump around like rabbits, it's breaking my immersion so bad"
It's so much more realistic and immersive to have to walk all the way around a small little bush or rock or a 6 inches high fence, not being able to jump up a small little hill and having to walk around until you find a path getting you up that small hill...
and as thousands of games from every genre proved for decades, jumping is fun and can be use in many many ways.
so let's sacrifice another great feature for the sake of "immersion"
"I never wanna see my character swim, it's so unrealistic to think i could swim with a chainmail armor"
Yet it is much more realistic to carry 100 pieces of armor weighting a ton in a small big attached to your belt..... or invisible bag wtv...
" I don't want to see you carry around a sword with flames all around it, it's so bright it's breaking my immersion, go play WOW!"
It's probably better to have a plain ugly simple steel sword and yet be able to throw fire and ice out of thin air... much more realistic.... we sure don't want any FANTASY weapons and armor in a Final FANTASY game... right...
It's crazy how closed minded so many people are and how they are ready to kill any FUN idea for the sake of their absolute immersion....
Ohhhh so now we get to the REAL issue. That's all you had to say. For the record I disagree with flaming swords and torches on your shoulderpads because it looks stupid, not because it's fantasy. Jumping/Swimming idc about. I can live with or without it. What breaks my immersion is how shitty the game's world is."I don't want to see people jump around like rabbits, it's breaking my immersion so bad"

Oni jumping is not going to solve everything, sure you might get stuck on a 2inch high pebble but if you can jump why would you over a 2inch high pebble, it should just be fixed so you dont get stuck....on the 2inch...high..pebble.. Also not to mention people will just bitch they can jump onto a fire camp or jump onto a spiked fence or cannot jump up x ledge or down x ledge.
The swim thing, i guess so the glow thing is more of a problem with people. They think it will be like wow, and it wont, wow is old, uses old graphic styles and developers made glow look like x style, Tron has glows, but does it look anything like WoW? nope. Its linear, controlled and made to look like art. Even XI has Glows, GM's get them and now they've just added a new sword which has a glow. But it looks nothing like WoW's, Aion has glows, doesn't look to much like WoW. This is just a problem with the community not understanding how SE will develop it. Lantern shield glows but has no volumetric just luminance and no one is bitchin about that.
