Path companioin, what happened to them?

I'm not sure if this has been asked or not, so here goes...

Remember main story back in 1.0 where midway we have to create our own path companion, in similar fashion as creating our retainers?

Although they only appear mostly in cut-scenes and perhaps several instanced battles, I felt close to him/her. Back then, I made a spunky warrior mi'qote, and it was fun.

Now in ARR, no sight of them. Did they perish 5 years ago? If not, is it possible to make them returned, and perhaps worked them as more real companion as in XI version perhaps?

Yes, I realize we now have chocobo that act as replacement for that, but I felt more closer bonding with human figure than animals.

they died because they sucked. I loved how the mage did nothing but cast worthless spells every once in a while, and apparently never learned cure.

Now instead we get NPCs who automatically do stuff in story battles, which is pretty much the same thing. Like that whm girl etc.

They mentioned this previously I think, they said it didn't fit in ARR, or it wasn't particularly useful. (I dunno)

Similar to the lines of the parlay system, it was just one of the things they decided to remove.

I hope they make a return, I miss my companion. I miss them and hope they, as well as every other important npc from 1.0, weren't just killed off. Anyone still remember their descriptions? So much potential!

Miqo'te Female

A lady who knows what she likes, and likes a little bit of everything. Don’t be fooled by her coquettish manner and all-too-apparent charms; in her breast beats the fiery heart of a warrior. Not to worry, though, she’ll be gentle—assuming that’s what you like.

Roegadyn Male

When the going gets tough, it’s often nice to have a big, earnest, slightly credulous friend around—and they don’t come much bigger than this straight-talking Roegadyn.

Highland Hyur Male

Women, wine, war and women. Just four—alright, three of the things which tickle the fancy of this brute of a man. He doesn’t so much stand on ceremony as stamp on it until it stops moving.
