Thread: What should be the gear progression before HM Garuda and Titan?

My DRG is my first character and so far, I have completed the relic quest up until Garuda. My gear consist of normal job artifact, DL Boots and GC spear (lvl 48 and 49 accessories). I know I need to save 900 tomes once Titan is dead, but should I just focus on DL gear right now before attempting Garuda and Titan? Do I need full DL to do either or both?

Most Garuda parties win quite easily...No need to worry about progression before then. For Titan, it is useful to get to 3500 hp. This will allow you to get hit by a bomb or a plume without dying. That aside, your chief concern as DPS in Titan is to maximize your damage against the heart. Your weapon and your familiarity with the class and the fight are the two big factors in doing this.

As far as weapon goes, it probably would be a good idea to repeat Garuda until you can get her spear. On top of this, you should personally work on perfecting your play to deal as much damage as possible.

Tomestones have dropped in price considerably. I'd also suggest buying 9 coke and asking an FC-mate to craft a Darksteel Haubergeon for you.

I would suggest running AK\WP until you have at least a full set of ilvl 55\60 gear. The tombs you get while farming for AK\WP gear can be used to upgrade to DL. You don't need a full set of DL to tackle titan but it certainly helps your DPS. The part where most groups fail on titan is being able to DPS the heart down. If you farming AK for gear, most people already have the full set of gear from AK so it shouldn't take too long to get nice loots.

As for your weapon, spam Garuda runs til the weapon drops for you. Doing both of these will GREATLY improve your damage.

On the other hand you could always just pay 300k for some group to beat titan for you. The choice is yours.

As a side note..you shouldn't even attempt titan until you have atleast 3500 HP. This is because during phase 5 the damage from tumults can add up quick. The damage itself isn't major but if you get hit by a plume or bomb, and you don't have the HP cushion your going to eat it.

Just want to echo what the other two have said.

The nice thing about Garuda farming is that if the party knows what to do she usually takes very little time and the myth tomestone drop isn't half bad because of it. I would recommend running WP/AK (preferrably AK since the gear is better - though it does take a bit longer and the bosses may be tough your first time) several times and if you get a good amount of stones, use them to fill in any slots you haven't gotten drops for that way you improve significantly overall.

Throw a few bits of AK gear on, hunt for an Ifrit Lance then gear yourself some more in AK gear I'd say.
By the time you've geared yourself in AK gear you should be either overflowing with Philosophy that you had to spend some (on darklight gear) or that you're near cap, in which, buy some Darklight Gear.

I'd say gear yourself up first in Darklight, then try touch out Garuda, and more specifically, Titan.

Some may disagree as you can cut corners but it's far better to over gear yourself, than under gear. And please, don't cut corners for Titan. People who walk in severely undergeared (i.e, AF (Lv. 45 gear)) only hurt the entire team.
Titan is considered ridiculously hard for enough people, and even worse with Duty Finder. Every piece of Darklight you don't have you only endanger your life and possibly the team's more.

After you beat Titan, then go do some more Philosophy runs to get your Relic. If you saved up 900 philosophy during the Primal HM's to use on the Relic, that's philosophy better spent gearing yourself up for the actual events leading to the Relic.
Especially since you can wind up spending weeks on Titan alone, doing your weekly Mythology cap would only put your Philosophy closer to the cap, and thus, unspent or unused.
