To actually answer the OP's question, I believe I remember a post from beta where Yoshi explained this. The game is basically targeted at and designed for people that:
- Have never played an MMO before
- Have next to no time to play MMOs
- Have tried MMOs in the past but found them too "stressful" for some of the following reasons/issues...
- Have anxiety issues in regards to talking to/interacting with other players in an MMO
- Get discouraged if things seem like they require interacting with other players to complete (see previous point)
- Get discouraged if things seem like they take too long to do
- Get discouraged if a system seems too complex at first glance
All the criteria any great MMO design philosophy should be based on.
So basically the new, the casual, the lazy, and the anti-social?To actually answer the OP's question, I believe I remember a post from beta where Yoshi explained this. The game is basically targeted at and designed for people that:

Sounds awesome.
Never said I was, or wasn't going to use the system. Personally, I do think it won't help much though. The majority of people will likely still be clearing their 8 minute WP speed runs all the same. Unless they plan to fix that, but that's another topic in itself. It is what it is.If you are, as you said, never going to use the system (Duty Roulette) in 2.1 then I guess you'll have to settle for what it is, ignore it, and just wait till 2.2. Personally, I can't wait for player housing to be in the game (not the FC houses) and I am disappointed that we won't see them in 6 months or so but, it is what it is.

I am curious if you think they have succeeded. At end game I would say not.To actually answer the OP's question, I believe I remember a post from beta where Yoshi explained this. The game is basically targeted at and designed for people that:

So MMOs should be designed in such a way that they limit the multiplayer aspect of their game as much as possible? It's definitely the design philosophy that most new MMOs have been based on. I wouldn't call many of them that great though, it's mostly a revolving door of failed MMOs... Great design philosophy indeed...To actually answer the OP's question, I believe I remember a post from beta where Yoshi explained this. It's definitely not targeting me. I have roughly 5 hours after work and weekends to play with my bf.
I've logged in coils for 3 months now to see 1 drop for me as a WHM. He almost has a full MNK set. Why do I bother? (loyalty to my group.)
Lockouts, broken loot tables, myth caps, is not targeting myself and likely others with a lot of time.
