why? Because killing the same mob is only fun for so long.

The point of NMs is to give players something to do which takes time and effort but has good rewards.
These NMs are short-term oriented fun. They will entertain someone for 1 or 2 days or maybe 2 or 3 "NM runs". After that spamming 1 and killing the same thing 40 times without any drops gets boring.
FFXI's NMs on the other hand created a long-term challenge. You had to spend time camping them, some gave cool titles which lets you show off, many gave really good equip which could then be sold, many were camped by multiple ppl so it was a "challenge". etc.

An MMO needs NMs like ffxi's. Sure they could be changed and tweaked a little. But FFXIV's NMs are essentially useless.
Disagree. I loathed FFXI's lottery pop/compete for 1 NM spawn that could spawn in 1 hour or not spawn for 5 because the window got screwed/random conditions+weather (I'm looking at you, noble mold), or had what seemed to be a 99% droprate on what you DIDN'T want (I'm looking at you, Xolotl, no I don't want your f#*$ing hat).

There needs to be a middle ground between (formerly) rmt-camped, (but still) annoying to get nms like VE, Hoo Mjuu, Mee Degi, etc. and the literal 1 minute pops of this game. And don't even get me started on HNMs.

At least in this game, everyone gets the chance to kill the damn things, so that's a plus I guess.
