Not sure why you encountered that problem, but I seemed not to have it. No matter which type of movement I use, Camera-based or Character-based, my Auto-Attacks still go off normally.
Are you sure that you were standing in the AA range? Because the AA range is actually much shorter than the actual "melee-range".

i have also notice that , that 's why i keybinded " the lock camera on target" feature .
with that when i need to focus a mob i just have to press on it , and when i need to avoid an aoe i repress on it to disable the actual view => problem solved .

Default lock-on is 5 on the num pad. If you use that while changing positions it should keep you facing the target at all times. Not sure if it was said already so sorry if it was.

I played TSW for a long while this way. Use xpadder to make your right stick into R-Click + mouse movement for each direction. Works like a champ, catch being you'll no longer have a "free look" that doesn't make your character spin round. Like it matters ^^

Other potential catch, I don't know if you can disable the default actions for the stick, using a PS3 controller with motioninjoy you can "hide" that stick from the game so only motioninjoy and xpadder use it.

At any rate, it really is probably easier to just turn on "face target when using an action" in the options and always be using an action while your moving (you already do this to get around delay in position checks anyway, right?)

I found a solution although it's a little excessive, all you have to do is macro EVERY attack like so: /macroicon /facetarget /ac "insertskill". Doing this will allow you to queue up your next attacks while moving between flank/rear etc and still facing the target doing auto attacks. So if you do Bootshine+truestrike+snappunch just rapidly tap the next skills in that order even when they are on cooldown and you will keep facing the target. They could fix this by making you face your target when tapping skills on cooldowns but they only face your target AFTER* the skill has been used. I recommend anyone using a gamepad to give that macro setup a try.
Sorry for necro but, thank you so much Bayke, That's the only acceptable solution i found to this problem.

Using standard type controls i use A and D in combination with turning the camera with the right mouse button to circle around an enemy. That way i always look at the monster and auto attacks are performed.

But when using legacy type controls and doing the same, the character doesn't look at the monster and thus doesn't perform auto attacks.

You can try this by attacking some random monster and just cricling around it, not using any skill and watch the auto attacks you do. Yes, you do one from time to time with legacy controls, but not nearly as often as it should be (and is with standard controls).

Does anyone have a solution to this? What do i need to do to mix legacy type controls with auto attacks while moving around an enemy?

The problem with that macro is that it ultimately leads into a DPS loss due to the GC skills not getting queued anymore.

Well for a controller what I do is simply Lock on the target (press the analog stick) as tilting the left analog stick acts the same way as the video, the lock on also is a lot better than it was in 2.0 as you can zoom in a bit farther, an extra button to lock on and lock off isn't hard once you get used to it.

    Character config: [x] Legcy controls.
    Keybinds:
    starfe left = A.
    Starfe right = D
