I know this thread is pretty old, but I have someone that I play with now with a parser.

Before, I was using legacy control on the PS4, and I would parse between 250-260 without using the lock-on.

I started using the lock on, and it has caused a little bit of brain farting in terms of me being comfortable adapting to uncommon situation (which means I can probably push this higher as I get more comfortable), but I am now between 295-310 every fight in T6. So, regardless of my gear or skill (judge away), having all of your auto attacks hit via lock-on makes a significant difference in your dps.

I guess that's one of the draws of using legacy. Personally as MNK main i use standard with face target when using skill, tried legacy but as OP described, sometimes you lose AA's, which for MNK are a huge chunk of their DPS.

Am I the only KB user whose 'Q' and 'E' keys were already bound to strafe on install? Or am I just crazy?

You are the only KB player that doean't use Q and E as keybinds. I'm assuming you use ctrl+number for hotbar #2 and shift+number changes your Hotbar #1's skills to corresbonding hotbarnumber's skills. Example: shift+2 would swap your "mainhotbar" to be same as hotbar #2 only the keybinds used to use the skills are still the basic 1,2,3,4 not ctrl+1,2,3,4.

People need to remember that a healer's job isn't to heal HP
but rather to prevent HP from reaching 0

I don't really understand what's being talked about here. I use Legacy controls, am I losing out on Damage or something when I strafe around enemies?

Yes, you lose some damage unless you are using the lock on mechanic to maintain auto attacks.

When you move your character isn't always facing the target. When you run left your character is technically facing left, even though you have the enemy targeted and your head is looking at the character. If you stop and do Bootshine or something, your character will automatically face the target and auto attacks will work. But if you're constantly moving this way, you won't be facing your target all the time and auto attacks will not occur.

When you lock onto the target (if you use a controller it should be L3 [left stick button] assuming PS3/4 or Xinput controller) your character will remain facing the target at all times and therefore autoattacks will continue uninterrupted. Your camera will still be moveable, but the enemy will remain in view at all times while locked on. You will also be circle strafing no matter what if you move left and right.

It can be hard to get used to, but it's worth it for boss fights since you get extra damage. You will have to get used to cancel the lock on (L3 again on a controller) in order to more effectively dodge AoE attacks as well. As said in the previous paragraph, you will be circle strafing the enemy moving left and right no matter what. Moving back will cause you to backpedal like in "standard" controls instead of turning and running as normal.

No - if you STRAFE you are fine, if you actually turn your whole body to run (as you would on a controller by moving the joystick without locking on) then yes you are missing damage. And yes it is significant.

I don't use Q or E as keybinds. Naga Mouse with Orbweaver keypad; have my hotbar set into Three 3x4 clusters. 1-12, Alt+1-12, and Shift+1-12.

Q and E are for Strafing.
