Weird issue game related or something else..?

So let's see if anyone else has the same issue I'm running into:

I"ve got a Hanns-G 28 inch monitor with my ATI Radeon XFX 7970 video card. Lately, however, while playing FFXIV, sometimes the monitor goes black; yet I still have a signal between my computer and my monitor. Nothing I do to get out of the game or get some sort of response of the computer seems to fix the issue; I literally have to reboot to get the signal to come back again.

The only reason I'm not thinking it's a video game issue is that this happened just today on my desktop after closing FFXIV and not doing anything for about 30 seconds. It's confusing to no end and I'm wondering if it's the monitor just going dead or something else.

I'm currently running a furmark and at the 50% mark, I'm running at a stable 93 degrees celcius, at 99% GPU usage, and the fan running at 61%. So it's not even using it's maximum capacity which is starting to make me think it's not video related.

So two things are left: Monitor and Game.

So. Anyone know of similar issues people can relate this to?

Wait, what exactly is running at 93 degrees C? If it's the CPU, that ain't normal.

By the way, have you tried adjusting your game to window mode, instead of full screen?

Nah, it was the GPU I was testing out with FurMark to make sure that a game should stay stable at all times with max settings; some cards crap out if there's a problem. This test was to pretty much throw all of that out of the way and focus on the problems: either it's the monitor, or it's the game.

I try to avoid window mode tbh solely as it takes more resources for the same graphical output that the game is giving. I like to be able to use my full 28 inches of my monitor and not just a part of the window.

93C Is still pretty dang hot for a GPU you might want to look into turning up your fans cause it should not be running that hot.

If you know about the 7000 HD series from XFX, they are specifically made to run that hot for long periods of time. They normally run nearly 100 degrees C sometimes and that's their threshold. I would have to play Crysis at maximum graphics on a 1900x1080 to somewhat push the card to that much. Tests running for a full 15 minutes let the card work just fine.

Trust me guys: the fact the card runs that hot isn't the reason, I'm positive. if the fan was running at 100% all the time when it was that hot, then I would agree that it wasn't normal. At this time, it's only running at around 61% of power which means it has more to keep the card stable.

I'll have to look it up but XFX is notorious for hot cards. Also, remember that I ran FurMark which pushes video cards to the max. It makes sense for your card to run hot like that but rarely will it ever get to that point for any game.
