FPS drops momentarily while inside instances.

    Hi everyone.
I've got this strange problem that's become a reoccurring issue recently.

Only while inside instances (including the inn rooms) or during cutscenes, my fps will occasionally drop from smooth (40-60fps depending on the player population) to unplayable (5-9fps). The problem only lasts for about thirty-seconds to a minute, and then goes back to normal.

This issue does not occur in any field/overworld location, only in instanced content/cutscenes. It doesn't happen in any other online game I own (though it has on one of them in the past, but not anymore), and my computer seems fine otherwise. I think I remember seeing a spike in my CPU usage while it was happening.

I've tried restarting my laptop, checking for viruses/malware, getting updates for all my drivers, and performing a hardware scan. So far, the issue hasn't been solved. Google searches have been less than reliable for this as well, so I'm at a loss as to what to do currently.

If you have any ideas or advice, please let me know. However, please understand that I'm not a very tech-savvy person at all, so you'll have to give me a walk-through for any technical process.
    Thank you!

Could be antivirus scanning files that are attempting to be read and loaded by FFXIV. How fast is your hard drive? You should keep the Windows task manager open and focused to see what process is consuming those resources during that period of activity.

    GeForce GTX 580M
    Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
    16.00 GB RAM (15.95 usable)

Is that what you needed to see?
Also, my anti-virus isn't scanning during my game. That's not the problem.

    Edit!-
Also, I've checked it during the game and while it was lagging. Aside from FFXIV, the second/third highest processes (in terms of memory) have been system-necessary things like explorer.exe

Looks like you're using a laptop. Could be a thermal issue. There is a program called Real Temp you can use to monitor your CPU temperatures. That is a good place to start. MSI Afterburner can monitor your GPU temperatures. If you notice your CPU temps getting over 80 degrees Celcius you should check for CPU throttling by the operating system. There is a program called CPU-ID (CPU-Z) you can use to monitor your CPU frequency. If the temperature is getting high and the CPU is being throttled as a result, then you need to figure out how to keep your laptop cool enough to stay below the temperature sensor's throttling point. To that end, look online for reviews of laptop cooling pads and such.

It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved. If this does continue to be a concern, please create another thread to further discuss resolutions or contact the Support Center at support.na.square-enix.com for assistance.
