I had similar problem with servers.. but as a EU player I've dropped lucky with Phoenix as there are plenty people running FATES and low level areas.

You don't mention whether you've looked at your hunting log yet or not? Every class gets it's own hunting log and there's some good xp bonus to be had completing each mob and rank. If you ever struggle to find any of them google dimensionaldeath . com for their hunting log list as it comes with maps for each mob.

btw.. to get monk you need pugalist level 30 and lancer level 15 and then get cross class skills from marauder so level that too.

to get dragoon you need lancer level 30 and marauder level 15 and then get cross class skills from pugalist so level that too.

So basically for both 'jobs' (monk and dragoon) you need the same 3 classes. Do you want to level the same 3 classes on a different character as well?
Have a think and then do whatever you want to do cos it's your game to enjoy any way you please

Yeah I just haven't found that fit as a PST player yet. Haven't checked it for a bit, but I think I've done like the first 7 of my journal.

They have the same base classes except for pugilist and marauder, but assuming I'm not misunderstanding the other person I' ve been quoting I'm just afraid that if I stay where I am it'll be ungodly annoying and painful to try and solo a lot of the fates I'm coming across so far. I'm under the impression I'll basically be forced to grind at least the Marauder and Dragoon possibly the later levels of the Lancer.

im just starting to figure if I'm going to be soloing a lot of my grinding and gearing especially on a legacy I might as well make two toons and so I only have to actually grind one class maybe.

I say go for it. I have every single class and even doh on one character. My main is lvl 40 PLD but storywise i just got to Brayflox and decided to now be a BLM instead.
I think you can also continue on the story even if you switch classes. BTW Archer has been worst for me to level. A pointer i always give to people is fastest way to level up is chain kills. Usually the enemies are the same level as you or 1 or 2 above.
Oh and the recent Lightning fates give good xp.

Yes you do not have to do the storyline on the class you start out as.

The only thing you have to do on your first class is its level 10 Class quest in order to unlock the ability to switch to others.

Also I can vouch for the hunting log suggestion that was mentioned. The log, alongside random non-boss FATEs here and there, should get you to level 15 without too much issue. Likely the reason you just haven't met many players is because everyone is past the low levels and people don't actively make groups for FATEs until level 20-ish or so where the FATE xp really takes off, and people go to specific zones for it as certain ones give a ton of XP.

There's little reason not to do everything on the same character since you can.

Your gathering classes can supply your crafting classes, which in turn can supply your battle classes. All classes benefit from cross-class skills, crafters included, which require you to level those classes. And, there may be instances where you need or want to use your Dragoon on tasks for which your Monk is ill suited or vice versa.

Items can not be easily transferred between characters on the same account, and some things which require time and effort to collect are patently untradeable.

The only real reasons to make an alternate character is because you want to look different or occasionally play on a different world.

How difficult is to gear a secondary job?

I'm really not used to games where I can have multiple classes so from my own experience in past games I usually get a starter set from questing and then move into instances, harder instances, and then raids. If I'm using up most of my quests to level up my Monk and its classes will I have any starter gear for my Dragoon?

Also do I realistically need to max every class for my jobs? I planned on maxing Pugilist and Lancer since they both build into Monk which I plan on also maxing along with Dragoon, but do I really need to max a Maurader as well?

Gearing isn't so hard. Early on, you can share a good deal of gear between similar classes; Disciple of War gear all comes with STR for PGL/LNC and DEX for ARC. Once you start running dungeons, you can get drops for whatever class you're leveling at the time (or get lucky with Greed rolls and get gear for other classes, too).

At worst, at every Aetheryte camp (plus several other spots, including the main cities), there are merchants that sell weapons & armor for the level ranges appropriate for that camp. Early camps only have weapons/armor for the classes their nearest city sponsors (e.g., camps in the Black Shroud sell LNC, CNJ, and ARC weapons, and no heavy tank armor since tanks come from other cities). You can use the merchants, or the markets (it's worth checking the prices, especially with the cost of travel factored in), to fill in any holes in your gear.

If your only interest in Marauder is for its cross-class skills to use on other jobs/classes, Mercy Stroke is the last cross-class MRD skill, and that's level 26. Foresight (level 2) and Fracture (level 6) are the other two. You could get away without Mercy Stroke for quite a while.

I'm only interested in the Maurader because I need it for Dragoon. So do I actually need to take it to 26 or is it ok keeping it at 15. Also do I actually need to max Pugilist and Lancer or just get them both to 30 for their respective jobs? My biggest worry was thinking I had to max 5 classes when I only supposedly have enough quests and other means of leveling to max 3 before I'd be forced to just mindlessly grind fates

If you want DRG and MNK, you need LNC and PGL to 30 and MRD to 15, that's it. I have no idea how useful Mercy Stroke is for DRG or MNK; you might eventually want MRD at 26 to get it, but it's not necessary, and it's certainly not something you have to worry about right now.

Note that once you unlock the jobs, LNC and DRG do not level separately, and MNK and PGL do not level separately. A job is a piece of equipment (a soul crystal) that you equip while you are on its base class. Whether you're currently a LNC (DRG soul crystal not equipped) or a DRG (soul crystal equipped), you are actually just leveling LNC.
