So I was thinking, with the seasonal events that we've... erm, enjoyed thus far (particularly the Lightning event) I've been pretty disappointed. When we got to the Aspect of Chaos portion of the Lightning event, all I could think about was how underwhelming it seemed despite the cool Mor Dhona setting with Lightning summoning Odin and getting ready to throw down.
Guildhests are also seriously underutilized. So what if we improved both Guildhests and Seasonal Events by merging the two?
A small bullet-list of how the system is improved by using Guildhests:
- You can team up with your friends, or, use the Duty Finder to access the Guildhest for quick accessibility. A new category under the Duty Finder called Seasonal Events can be created for this purpose and each individual event can be put up and taken down according to the length of the event.
- Since the Guildhest system bases your rewards upon your first completion of the Duty, it provides a perfect avenue for awarding players with the quest item needed to complete that seasonal event (or perhaps that leg of the seasonal event) at their first completion. This is preferable to spamming player inventories with the quest items they no longer need after completing the quest (like the Lightning FATEs after the first chapter currently do).
- With the above suggestions, you could use the new Duty Roulette system to award players tomestones for taking part in the seasonal event, making more of the player base willing to experience the event instead of either rushing it right when it is released or rushing to finish it before the event ends, both settings contributing to player congestion.
- Character crossover events become more immersive. If, for instance, we got some kind of crossover event with Locke from FF6, I'd much rather the event be more small-scale and personal so I can actually see the NPC during whatever task is at hand. I can see this as being much more preferable compared to the "spam attacks on the monster because that's what we do in FATEs" way of doing things.
- This stuff need not be limited to battle content either. Seasonal events that could involve crafting or gathering, or even the FATE-style systems on a much smaller scale could all provide amusing events while still rewarding players for their participation.
- But speaking of battle content, it could suddenly be made challenging. The Aspect of Chaos from the Lightning event would be a perfect small-scale boss battle. Not quite FATE-level spam-a-key boredom, not quite Primal-level pay-attention role-fulfilling content. Just plain fun.
- Those Guildhest achievements might actually be, y'know, achievable, because people would suddenly want to do some Guildhests. This bullet point caters to the cheevo crowds.
What do you think, devs?
