New guy here.. Could use some help

OK so I probably did one of the classic blunders. I created a Toon and put it on the first server that popped up. I assume my toon is the equivalent of a Lock or Mage from WoW

I leveled him to 10 in a few hours just basically mindlessly running around accepting a quest here and zerging the local wildlife. But that's all it feels like I'm doing. I have yet to interact with anyone at all in game although there "seems" to be plenty of ppl running around no one talks or answers anything. Maybe I'm just on a low pop server. Can't really tell.

I have no idea what I'm doing here. So far what little I've seen the graphics are awesome the gameplay I can get into but I would think there would be more interaction going on.

More importantly how does one go about joining a "Guild" (or whatever they call them in this game) where you have other members to interact with? Need to be a certain level first?

Can anyone help me get on the right track here?

The social aspect is almost entirely reliant on "guilds." There are two types: Free Companies, and Linkshells. The former tend to be much more organized, while the latter is simply a separate private chat channel for members. Go in to a city, and use the command "/shout" to shout to anyone in the area that you are looking for a free company or a linkshell to join. Someone will pick you up.

It's best if you find groups with the same interest, such as end-game raiders, crafting, or even fishing specific. You can be in one Free Company (guild) at a time, and you can be part of up to 8 linkshells (private chat channels) at once also.

Like Mithras said, just /shout what you're looking for, or you can go to the Brynhildr world forums. The world forums often have many recruitment threads. Or just start singing the lyrics to a song in /shout, it usually catches on pretty fast XD

Definitely end game stuff for me here. Is the Max level 50? Coming from a raiding guild on WoW I think I fit in nicely with End Game content. Just need to figure out the basics here. Thanks everyone. Based on a few other threads I made another toon on Exodus. Sounds like a higher pop server. Might have some better luck there.

It may help you to know that game story doesn't really progress until level 15. Every final fantasy is made this way. You start out in your local area and BLAM the world opens up.

You'll be able to start doing dungeons at 15, guild leves and guild hests open up at 10, I believe. Do main story quests as these will open up the most options for you. If you're looking for FC's pay attention to shouts by people recruiting for FC's (FC=Free Company; basically a guild). You can also search the forums here and check your server: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/820-Coeurl. You can generally choose what kind of FC from what is being advertised. I found a great FC on my server this way! Most helpful FC's are the ones that advertise for particular players, imo.

    Good luck!

Also, to combat constant gil seller spamming you tells, this will be your best friend. /blist add <r>

It will ask you if you would like to blacklist the last person who sent you a /tell. It works oh so grand!
