Of course this causes some problems so to prevent those from being created the following ideas should help:

Replace the market by a NPC that sells all items for a price set by SE (the same amount you would normally have to pay),
This NPC would also buy items at a way better price, the same amount you would normally earn from selling it on the market.

This would remove RMT WITHOUT making any changes to players earning/spending gill.

Please think about the other FF games, you buy stuff from a NPC and sell it to one..was that any less fun?
Just because it's an MMORPG it doesn't mean "everything" should be done together. (playing, chatting together is what an MMORPG should be all about not buying/selling)

If all previously tradeable items could be bought/sold at an NPC then crafting/gathering classes will be almost pointless to have, or it would force people to be compelled to level all crafting professions if they ever needed materias or to even do their relic quest.
To make any money people would be forced to farm the best thing that the npc buys. Or they could make it so a crafter can do crafting leves for the npc to sell finished products to them.

Economically I don't really see anything inherently wrong at the moment.

But it would make the game very bland and stale as it forces everyone to become self sufficient, and there'd be no need to trade with anyone ever unless it was a gift. It'd make the mmo feel more solo. I personally wouldn't like it just for the fact that it sucks out the fun in an mmo.
