Quelling strikes -> how does it exactly work?

I was wondering some things about Quelling Strikes, on how it works exactly, since based on this there are optimals way to use it for maximum enmity reduction.

What I was wondering is, how exactly does quelling lower your enmity? Does it:
Lower your enmity on each attack
    1) based on a % of your current enmity?
    2) based on a % of the damage of the attack
    3) with a static amount? if this -> does the static amount scale?

Also how does it work with auto attacks? And with DoT's (initial damage and DoT ticks).

Any input on this is greatly appreciated!

All actions(and Quelling Strike itself) done while the buff is present generate 50% enmity.

Same with any other buffs/debuffs, DoTs take a snapshot when they are applied.

Adding to this, it's best to save Quelling Strikes for when you're near the 75% mark on the aggro meter to avoid taking aggro from the tank, or when you're about to do anything that is known to grab more aggro, such as using Blood for Blood.

As a BLM I'll usually open up with Quelling + Raging Strikes so that I can start heavy on a target and then my enmity is in check for the rest of the fight usually. I've seen many Bards be guilty of just opening up hard on a boss without using Quelling and they wonder why things go running after them.

They're usually also foolish enough to hit the boss before giving the tank enough time to grab all the aggro. Though, I've seen many DPS and even some healers guilty of grabbing aggro before the tank does at the start of a boss fight. A shame not everybody can have on Quelling Strikes.

I think this is the best way to open for any job that can bring Quelling, it allows the tank to build it's total enmity while the DD can still go all out. Most fights are much smoother this way, just too bad every DD can't Quelling Strike

While I can't say anything for MNK, DRG really don't need it unless we're AoEing at the beginning; our damage takes time to ramp up and if the tank can't handle aggro in that period of time either they're vastly undergeared (compared to DRG), targeting the wrong enemy (I don't know how many tanks I've DFed that mark enemies...then attack #2 while DPS is starting on #1...) or just doesn't know what to do. And if all else fails we have an emergency aggro dump: Evasive Jump.

Would Raging/Quelling Strikes be nice on the DRG? Of course! Is Quelling necessary as we are right now? Would be nice, but isn't a necessity...

as bard, open boss fights with SS then QS, pop buffs and go all out. you will not pull aggro even off a gimp tank, and your buff timers will reset that much quicker. QS is about our best ability overall in terms of utility. also, you cannot overwrite DoTs cast under buffs that strengthen them, so baddies will get a better sense of when to recast (read: after it drops).
