I know this is kind of niche but I'm someone that plays with a controller on the PC, and I hate being limited to the crossbar. I've gotten used to dealing with it by having certain macros and switching between 2 sets, but I know that I could play much more optimally if I could just use all the extra hotbar spaces that keyboard/mouse players get and have the freedom to change the button configuration to EXACTLY what I wanted.
For other MMO's I use a program like xpadder (hope it's okay to mention it) that let you map keyboard/mouse commands to any controller button.
I feel like there are so many extra options I could have if I were able to do this, and that there's no reason to force pushing a thumbstick in to put me in a first-person camera POV or lock-on to an enemy (either of these often get me killed when they accidentally happen). I would simply switch to the keyboard/mouse option to get the extra hotbar space, but unfortunately those controller presets are locked in no matter what. I'm not sure what is so difficult about allowing me to totally disable them.
I hate that I'm forced to use a trigger for even my most basic attack, or that trying to switch filters mid-combat or an accidental button press (left bumper / L1) will cause me to auto-run, which serves no purpose whatsoever for me in combat (especially for a casting class).
I'm not sure why they even give players the mediocre option to edit the button configuration, when there's no real editing options. EXAMPLE: Right thumbstick, I would like to set this to "nothing." I have a choice of either "change camera", "draw weapon/lock on", or "Sit/lock on", all 3 of which do nothing but lead to me getting killed if accidentally pressed. Of course, if I could map the buttons any way I wanted, I would set it to something actually useful like "focus target" or "assist." I could create a macro for this, but that takes 1 of my already limited crossbar spaces (and in the meantime a thumbstick press is still useless and has the potential to kill me).
I understand I may be one of very few players who care about this, and I understand it is possible to clear turn 5 with the current (horrible) *forced* controller presets and limited hotbar space. And I know that many will say "hey just use a keyboard/mouse, problem solved." But I don't want to play with a keyboard/mouse, and personally I feel that if I can edit the button commands with complete freedom that I could be just as effective if not faster on a controller.
It annoys me that I can't play as optimally as if I had the ability to set up my controller the way I WANT, and is unfair. Please allow us to set things up the way we prefer, instead of forcing stupid buttons like the thumbsticks or back/select button having a limited number of useless commands that we can't even set to "none."
